The funeral was held Sunday evening from the residence of his mother, Mrs. A. Ventre, with services at the Catholic Church and interment in the Catholic cemetery, the Woodmen, of which he was a member, also performing their rites over his remains. The death of Arthur Ventre was a severe jolt, not only to his aged mother, his two sisters and five brothers, but to his large circle of friends, and a large sorrowing concourse followed him to his last resting place, thus testifying to the high esteem in which he was held. Quiet and unassuming, he exhibited at all times the manner and instinct of a gentleman, and when death was made known to one of his dear friends, this latter quietly remarked that Arthur was one of the best boys he had ever known. For a number of years he, with his younger brother, Laurent, had operated the mercantile establishment established by his deceased father and estimable mother, and notwithstanding the fact that this store located out of the business district, it enjoyed a splendid patronage, people going far out of their way in order to patronize a store where they had been well treated for years. When young Ventre's mother retired from the active management of the store, her sons took up the business and it was prosperous as in the years gone by, attesting to the courteous and fair and square dealings of the two young men in charge. It is with extreme regret that The Clarion chronicles the passing of Arthur Ventre, for he was a close friend of the writer and we knew and esteemed him very highly. But a brief week before his death we, with others of his associates, never dreamed that his final leave taking was so near. Apparently he was in good health and only slightly indisposed and none of us thought that the Grim Reaper was then preparing to call him home. But such is life and such is death, for death, 'tis said, loves a shining mark. We can not question his wisdom nor do we try to scrutinize his ways. We bow our heads at his edicts for they are beyond our understanding. To the aged Mrs. Ventre, the bereaved mother; his sisters and brothers, all of whom have their heads bowed in unutterable grief, The Clarion and the many friends of Arthur Ventre tender deepest sympathies in their great loss. CARD OF THANKS We wish to tender to our neighbors and many friends for their kindness and sympathy shown un in the last illness and death of our beloved son and brother, Arthur Ventre, and to specially thank the attending physicians, Drs. S. B. Wolff and R. M. Littell, and the nurse, Miss Pollock, for their unremitting attention and efforts to save his life. Also to Father Wageman for his spiritual ministrations and words of comfort. MRS. A. VENTRE AND FAMILY.
