Walker, living on Waxia, committed suicide by shooting himself through the left lung. The weapon used was a 38-calibre (sic) Colt pistol, and he was lying in bed when he fired the fatal shot. He lingered until Wednesday evening, when he died at 4:40 o'clock. His remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery Thursday. Dr. Walker was an orphan, reared and educated by Dr. Doremus. He practiced the profession of dentist until he lost his arm in a gin, after which he retired on his plantation on Waxia bayou. He was not successful as a planter, and he was soon beset by financial reverses. This, and his delicate health, preyed on his mind, and he took to strong drink, and the inevitable followed. He leaves a wife and ten children. He was insured for $7000.
