Aged Ex-Officer Falls from Telephone Poll, and Injuries Prove Fatal. Rayne, Aug. 22. - Jake Wimberly, an old and highly respected resident of this place, fell from the top of a Cumberland Telephone pole about 11 a. m. today and was instantly killed. Mr. Wimberly was in the employ of the telephone company doing line work and had climbed to the top of the pole when he came in contact with a live wire and received a shock that caused him to lose his balance. His neck was broken by the fall. Mr. Wimberly was about fifty years years of age and had resided in Rayne for over a third of a century. He was for a number of years town marshal and was well known all over the parish.
