Nelson 3 Jan. 1844 Marriage Bond: State of Louisiana Parish of St. Landry Know all men by those present, that Elijah Fogleman, of the state of Louisiana and parish of Avoyelles, and Gilbert T. Nelson, of the afore-said state and parish of St. Landry, are held and firmly bound unto Alexander Mouton, Governor of the state of Louisiana and his successors in office , in the sum of three hundred dollars, for the payment which where-of truly to be made, they bind themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally - in witness where-of, they have here-unto signed on Bayou Bouf (sic) in the parish of St. Landry this third day of January eighteen hundred and forty four- (3 Jan 1844) The condition of the above obligation is such that where-as the above bound Elijah Fogleman has this day obtained a license to marry Ms. Mary T. Nelson of the parish of St. Landry - Now if there should be or here-after appear no legal impediment to said marriage, then and in that case, the above obligation to be null and void, otherwise to remain in full force. Witnesses: Elijah Fogleman -- Granger Gilbert T. Nelson John L. Fogleman Marriage Certificate: I, Isaac Griffith, one of the Justice of the Peace acting of and for the parish of St. Landry , authorised to celebrate marriages there in agreeable to a licence to me directed, I have this 9th day of January 1844 joined together in the holy bonds of matrimony, Elijah Fogleman of the parish of Avoyelles and Ms. Mary T. Nelson of the parish of St. Landry. I have here-unto signed with the parties in the prescence of the subscribing witnesses the day and year above written.
