ARTENARD BENARD, ARNAUDVILLE.--Mr. Benard is the son of Valsin and Madeline
(Nezat) Benard.  He was born in St. Martin parish in 1837.  He was reared in
this parish and received a fair education in the schools of the place.  At the
age of seventeen he began farming, and at the age of nineteen married Miss
Marie Dignaud, of St. Martin parish, daughter of Goesen Dignaud and Josephine
Guilbeau, both natives of Louisiana.  Mr. Benard has devoted his attention to
planting, and has a good plantation, on which he raises cotton and corn.  He
and his wife are the parents of three sons and two daughters, only one of whom
is living.
