CARLOS BERNARD, ST. MARTINVILLE --Carlos Bernard is a native of St. Martin
parish and is the son of Francois Bernard.

Mr. Bernard received but a limited education in St. Martin parish, and began
business life at the age of twenty-one years as a planter.  He has a fine
plantation four miles east of St. Martinville and is a prosperous planter.  He
is a member of the Catholic church.
