J. U. CHAMPAGNE, BREAUX BRIDGE.--Mr. Champagne, a merchant of Breaux Bridge,
is a native of Louisiana, born September 27, 1863.  He is the son of O. and
Pilama (Thibodeaux) Champagne, both of whom are natives of Lafourche parish,
Louisiana.

J. U. Champagne it one of a family of eight children, seven of whom are
living.  He was reared and educated in Lafourche parish.  He began business at
the age of nineteen as a clerk in the mercantile establishment of F. M.
Seymour, of Abbeville, where he remained for two years, when he removed to St.
Martin parish, and engaged in merchandise at Breaux Bridge.  He began business
on a capital of $250 in a rented building.  He has been very successful in his
business undertakings, and now carries a stock of $3000 worth of goods, and
does an annual business of from $15,000 to $18,000.  He owns his own business
property, having a good two-story building, eighteen by sixty feet.  Mr.
Champagne is a thorough-going, energetic business man.  He was married, May
18, 1890, to Miss Hebert, daughter of A. Hebert, of St. Martin parish.  

Mr. Champagne and wife are members of the Breaux Bridge Dramatic Association,
and he of the Breaux Bridge brass band.
