MARTINVILLE.--Rene' Durand was born in St. Martin parish in 1855. He spent his early school days in New Orleans, and subsequently attended school at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He entered the mercantile business as a clerk, and subsequently followed planting until 1882, when he entered the employment of the Morgan Railroad Company, in whose employment he still remains. He was married in the year of 1875 to Miss A. Bienvenu, of St. Martinsville. To them have been born seven children, of whom four are living two sons and two daughters. Mr. Durand is a most efficient employee, standing well with the company, to whose business he attends assiduously. He also gives general satisfaction in dealing with the public.
