WIFE BY HER FIRST MARRIAGE OF JEAN CHARLES BOUDREAUX AND WIFE BY HER SECOND 
MARRIAGE OF JEAN LANGLINAIS

INVENTORY, June 26,1817. At the request of the heirs of Jean Charles Boudreau, 
namely Jean Boudreau, Lufroy Boudreau, Augustin Boudreau, and Michel Broussard, 
husband of Marie Euphrosine Boudreau, Judge Briant went to the home of Dorothe 
Comaux, wife by her first marriage of Jean Charles Boudreau, and at this time 
wife of Jean Langlinais. The purpose of this inventory was to determine what 
property belonged to Doroth6 Comaux before her marriage to Jean Langlinais. 
Appraisers were Celestin Prejean and Joseph Bernard. First item inventoried was 
LAND: (1) A farm measuring 6 x 40 arpents, located on the west bank of Bayou 
Vermilion, except one arpent width which did not face the bayou, but which 
faced a coulee which paralleled the road and ran back from that about 37 
arpents, bounded above by the lands of Jean Boudreau and below by the lands of 
Jean Schexnayder, appraised for $1,250; (2) a tract of land measuring 3 x 40 
arpents on the east side of Bayou Vermilion, bounded on one side by the lands 
of Louis Langlinais and on the other side by the lands of Louis St. Julien or 
Amand Broussard. SLAVES: Catherine (45), appraised at S550; Jean Pierre (20-
22), $1,100; Betzy (20) and her two children, Sam (3) and Clarice (22 mos.), 
51,400; Jassemin (20-22), $1,150. The household furnishings were appraised at 
$112. ANIMALS: 6 pair of oxen; 27 head of cattle; 31 sheep. There were a few 
tools and miscellaneous items inventoried. When asked to sign the inventory, 
Jean Langlinais refused to do so, stating as his reason that the appraisal 
value of the farm was too great. He stated that the land was overvalued because 
it was without wood, and that the improvements were in bad condition.

PETITION, December 22, 1817. Jean Boudro, Lufroy Boudro, Michel Broussard, and 
Augustin Boudro petitioned Judge Briant to continue with the inventory of the 
property of Dorothe Comaux, particularly the wild horses and range cattle which 
were not inventoried previously. Petition granted.

CITATION, March 1, 1818. Judge Briant informed Jean Langlinais and his wife, 
Dorothe Comeaux, that he would be coming to their farm on March 5 to continue 
the inventory of property belonging to Dorothe Comeaux before her marriage to 
Jean Langlinais, particularly the animals mentioned in the foregoing petition. 
This citation was served March 5 in the suit brought by Jean Boudreau et al., 
vs. Jean Langlinais and wife.

EXECUTION OF COURT ORDER, March 9, 1818. Judge Briant, accompanied by Michel 
Broussard, Jean Boudreau, Ludfroy Boudreau and Celestin Prejean, went to the 
home of Jean Langlinais and his wife. There, in the presence of Celestin 
Prejean and Francois Lormand, Jean Langlinais refused to allow the inventory to 
continue.
