All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.shtml ======================================================================= DAVIS, ELVENA A celebration of life for Elvena "Catain" Rideaux Davis (90) will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 1200 Old Jeanerette Rd. Fr. Augustine Seran, Pastor. Monsignor Ronald Broussard will be the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Beau Pre' Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will begin Friday, Dec. 21, 2007 at 7 p.m. at the church with the recitation of the rosary and the Ladies Auxiliary Rites beginning at 7:30 p.m. with a musical celebration and tributes to follow. The church will close at 9:30 p.m. and visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Elvena was born on Dec. 3, 1917 in Plaisance, Louisiana to the union of the late Paul and Eva Rideaux. As a young adult, she moved to a community outside of Jeanerette known as Daze's Place along with her family. She married Joseph "Jay" Milton Davis in 1941 and they enjoyed 50 blessed years of marriage before his passing in 1991. "Catain," as she was affectionately called, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and the matriarch of her family. She was a very kind and giving person who was always supportive of families in her community and beyond. Having been a very devout Catholic, she served faithfully as a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and was the eldest member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 184 for 49 years and a life long member of Starlight Benevolent Society in Plaisance. Following a courageous and valiant battle with health challenges, at the blessed age of 90 - Elvena peacefully entered the Lord's presence on Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, surrounded by her family. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband, her parents and three siblings, Walter Rideaux Sr., Rodney Rideaux and Ella Mae Rideaux-Martin. Elvena, Catain, Mama and Momme' will forever live on through the lives of her children, St. Mary Parish Councilman Joseph M. "Tooney" Davis Jr. and his wife Ruth of Four Corners, Josephine "Josie" Foster and her husband, Murphy Jr. (USAF retired) of Sacramento, Calif., James E. Davis and his wife Ethel of Pearland, Texas, Michael P. Davis of Forrest City, Ark. and Eva Davis Rollins and her husband Oswald of Four Corners; her grandchildren, Troy (Annette) Davis Sr., Todd Davis, Min. Trent Davis, Don Davis, Joemen Rollins, Justin Rollins, Travis Davis, Johnathan Rollins, Sean Davis, Newartha (Chet) Brooks, Gary (Yvette) Foster and Brett Foster; 20 great grandchildren, her four siblings Roy Rideaux Sr. of Lake Charles, Frederick (Florence) Rideaux and Elnora Rideaux- Williams all of Jeanerette and John (Sandra) Rideaux of New Iberia; one sister in law, Gertie Mae Davis of Baton Rouge and many other relatives and community friends who will truly miss her. Active pallbearers will be Troy Davis Jr., Reginald Miller, Joemen Rollins, Justin Rollins, George Murray, Travis Davis, Don Davis and Sean Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Davis Sr., Min.
