Mrs. Genevieve Mary Hayden Duck, 84, a resident of Franklin since 1967 died Friday, June 15, 2007, at 8:40 p.m., at the Franklin Health Care Center. Mrs. Duck is survived by one daughter, Mary Francis Duck Cushing and her husband, Matthew, of Franklin; three sons, Charles H. Duck and his wife, Beryl, of The Woodlands, Texas; Joe W. Duck and his wife, Donna, of Franklin; and Robert L. Duck and his wife, Karen, also of Franklin; one brother, Leroy Hayden and his wife, Mavis, of Santanta, Kansas; one aunt, Jerry Pitts and her husband, Floyd, of Franklin; nine grandchildren, David Cushing, Christine Suchecki, Charlotte Daugherty, Samuel Duck, Rachael Grose, Rebecca Jones, Stephanie 0'Neal, Steven Duck and Jennifer Duck; 11 great grandchildren; and four nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Walter Harold Duck; her father, Austin Joseph Hayden; her mother, Goldie Schonlaw Hayden; and a sister, Maxine Hayden. The family requests that visitation be observed Monday, June 18, at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Ibert's in Franklin, with a vigil service at 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday, June 19, at 12 Noon, at the Church of the Assumption, with a Mass of Christian burial following at 1 p.m. Monsignor Paul Metrejean will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette. Serving as pallbearers are David Cushing, Steven Duck, Samuel Duck, Mark Daugherty, Charles Grose and Benjamin Jones. Mrs. Duck graduated from beautician school in Wichita, Kansas. She opened a beauty salon in Santanta, Kansas until she married her husband, Walter Harold Duck. The Ducks then owned and operated a drug store in Santanta, until Mr. Duck took employment with United Carbon. Mrs. Duck followed her husband's work with United Carbon around the country until finally settling down in Acadiana, particularly between the New Iberia and Franklin area. She enjoyed bridge, sewing, upholstery, gardening, painting and other various forms of artwork. Like her husband, Mrs. Duck genuinely loved all of the people in Acadiana.
