Vernon James Robinson Sr., 44, a native and resident of Morgan City, departed this life on Friday, May 4, 2007, at 2:34 p.m., at Kindred Hospital in New Orleans following a short illness. Vernon James Robinson Sr. was born to Mrs. Betty Ross Robinson and Mr. Clarence Robinson Sr. of Morgan City on January 6, 1963. Vernon was baptized at an early age by the Rev. C. F. Smith of the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. He later became a member of the Mt. Era Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Lenel Watson and until his death the Rev. Norman A. Stovall. Vernon attended Maitland Elementary School and graduated from Morgan City High School in 1982. Vernon was married to Millette Jannell Watson on January 7, 1984. To this union three children were born in the names of Jannell Alicee' Robinson, Vernon James Robinson Jr. and Dylan De'Andre Robinson. He began his career in 1986 at Martin Marine. He served the community at the Recreational Department in Morgan City as coach for all sports. He was a member of the 100 Black Men Association. He was a number one fan of the Denver Broncos football team. He was a member of the Morgan City Soul Inspirational Choir (SIC) of Morgan City and served as one of the presidents. He was also a member of the L. Watson Memorial Inspirational Choir of Mt. Era Baptist Church where he served as the first president. Vernon was a loving and caring person and was always willing to help anyone in any way and at any time possible. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Millette Jannell Watson-Robinson; three devoted children, Jannell Alicee' Robinson, Vernon James Robinson Jr., and Dylan De'Andre Robinson, all of Morgan City; his mother and father, Betty Ross Robinson and Clarence Robinson Sr.; one foster son, Brandon Jones; three sisters, Jowanda Tillman (Mathew Tillman), Venita Henderson (Famous Henderson), Suzette Jenings (companion, Carl Allen); two brothers, Sanford Robinson (companion, Greta Lewis); Clarence Robinson Jr. (Carmen Robinson); three grandchildren, Jhai David Robinson, Jaela Rose Marie Robinson and Kobi Jade Robinson; devoted father-inlaw, Albert Eugene Watson; four aunts, Donna Jones, Stella Reaux, Cynthia Dardar and Mamie Lou Johnson; one great aunt, Orelia Skinner; three uncles, Leroy Ross, Joseph Ross and James Batiste; one great uncle, Emanuel Skinner; six godchildren, Jessica Steward, Lawrence Carbin, La'Shawn Nicholas, Kirsten O'Gwin, Brandi Ingram and Amber Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt and uncles-in-law and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, mother-in- law, Beverly Rose Ruben Watson; brother-in-law, Phillip Edmons; and godmother, Verial Johnson and godfather, Murphy Johnson. Visitation will be observed Wednesday, May 9, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel and also on Thursday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Funeral rites will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at Mt. Pilgrim. The Rev. C.F. Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery. The Jones Funeral Home, Inc. of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements. ===================
