"BLACK" Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at 10 a.m., for J.C. "Black" Rogers, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at his home on Saturday, Aug. 18. Mr. Rogers was a proud veteran of WWII and will be laid to rest with military honors. Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the fuel distribution industry as a bulk fuel agent for Canal Refining Co. He was an avid sports enthusiast having participated as a boxer and football player at Abbeville High School where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2000 honored as one of Acadiana's top 100 athletes of the 20th Century. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. His golfing activities and his support of his children and grandchildren's sporting activities continued until his death. Black is survived by his wife of 60 years, Effie Broussard Rogers. He is also survived by his sons, David Rogers and his wife, Lana, of Abbeville; Tommie Rogers and his wife, Janice, of Lafayette; Kelly Rogers and his wife, Jessie, of Abbeville; and his daughter, Mary Katherine Rogers of Abbeville. He is also survived by his sisters, Velta Firmin of Franklin and Jane Bohrer of New Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Leaving to also mourn Popoo's passing are his 10 grandchildren, Maria Phares, Baron Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Erin Hebert, Lindsay Trahan, Kyla Rogers, Karla Rogers, Amy Rogers, Ryan Rogers and Phillip Rogers; and his four great grandchildren, Payton and Addison Phares, Stella Rogers and Hollyn Hebert. In addition to his parents, Wilfred B. and Eliseman S. Rogers, his in-laws, Thartule and Theoza Broussard, and his sister, Flora Holt, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin Jude Rogers. Pallbearers will be Baron Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Kern Meyers and Paul "Bubba" Trahan. Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. The family requests that visitation be observed from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services. Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville is in charge of arrangements. ===================
