Donald Joseph Jones, age 73, a resident of Hammond, La., and a native of New 
Iberia, La., died Monday, March 1, 2010 at Landmark Nursing Care in Hammond, La.

Donald was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

The visitation will take place Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Jones Funeral Home 
Chapel in Franklin, La., from 9:00 AM until funeral at 1:00 PM. The burial will 
take place in Fitzgerald Cemetery in Centerville, La.

Donald leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters: Mrs. Matt (Sonja) Curry of 
Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Glenn (Francine) Todd of Sante Fe Spring, Calif.; two sons, 
Christopher (Rebecca) Jones of Whittier, Calif and Phillip Jones of Norwalk, 
Calif.; a brother, Ananias Hershel Jones of Orlando, Fl.; four grandchildren, 
and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Della Mae Barrilleaux, 85, a native of Bayou Sale and a resident of Franklin, 
passed away at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in Franklin.

Miss Della is survived by two nieces, Janis B. Boudreaux and her husband, Neal, 
and Julie Barrilleaux; and one nephew, Matt Barrilleaux; three great-nieces, 
Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Boudreaux, and Randi Barrilleaux; and one great-
nephew, Blaize Barrilleaux, all of Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gaston Barrilleaux; her mother, Maggie 
Albares Barrilleaux; three brothers, Murray, J.C., and Carroll Barrilleaux; one 
sister, Doris Barrilleaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday, March 3, at the 
Church of the Assumption, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass time.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at the church at 11:00 a.m. 
Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will conduct 
the services.

Joseph Verdun, Sr., age 88, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at his residence in 
Patterson, La.

The visitation will be Saturday, March 6, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in 
Patterson, La., from 8:00 AM until the funeral at 10:00 AM. The interment will 
be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Verdunville, La.

Joseph was survived by three sons, Joseph Ronnie (Claudette) Verdun, Jr. and 
Kevin Verdun both of Patterson, La., and Guy (Elvina) Verdun of Bayou Vista, 
La.; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Lillian) Smith of Lafayette, La. and Mrs. Ted 
(Bettye) Foulcard of Franklin, La.; a sister, Joycea Mae Paul of Verdunville, 
La., eight grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, 
relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers and five

Mrs. Maria Guarisco Wiese, 68, a native and lifelong resident of Patterson died, 
Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:50 p.m. at the Teche Regional Medical Center in 
Morgan City.

Mrs. Maria is survived by her two daughters, Sabrina M. Wiese of Kenner and a 
special friend, Philip Blanchard of Labadieville, and Regina Wiese Wheeler and 
her husband, Christopher, of Patterson; one brother, Frank Guarisco of Patterson 
and his wife, Joy B. Guarisco; one sister, Josie G. Moncada; and her sister-in-
law, Barbara R. Guarisco of Patterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Wiese Jr.; her father, 
Sebastian 'Frank' Guarisco; her mother, Josephine Domino Guarisco; one brother, 
Peter J. Guarisco; two sisters, Frances M. Guarisco and Mamie Anne Guarisco; and 
one brother-in-law, A.J. Moncada.

The family requests that visitation be observed Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 6 
pm to 9 pm at Ibert's Mortuary in Patterson with a rosary being prayed at 7 pm. 
Visitation will resume on Thursday, March 4th at 9 am until time of mass at 11 
am.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 11 am at 
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson with Rev. Louis Vu. Burial will follow 
in the church cemetery.

Acting as pallbearers will be her nephews, Curt Guarisco, Glynn Guarisco, Wayne 
Guarisco, Nicholas Moncada, Frank Smoorenburg and Brad Wiese.

Mrs. Maria provided over 30 years of guidance and attentive care to numerous 
"Special Needs" students as a Para Professional / Teacher's Aide for the St. 
Mary Parish School System. She was a very prayerful and devoted Catholic. She 
was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all 
who were touched by her life.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at 
the Church of the Assumption for Percy John Bonvillain, 82, who passed away 
Thursday, March 4, 2010, at his home in Franklin.

Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit, Pastor of 
Church of the Assumption, will conduct the services.

Mr. Bonvillain, a native of Centerville and a longtime resident of Franklin, was 
born to the late Addie Bonvillain and Edna Martin Bonvillain. He was a veteran 
of the United States Air Force and was a member of the Church of the Assumption.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hilda Mary Pichoff Bonvillain; 
two sons, Gary J. Bonvillain and his wife, Johanna, of Patterson, and Mitchell 
F. Bonvillain and his wife, Sheila, of Franklin; one daughter, Sharon B. Dupuy 
of Franklin; one brother, Leslie Bonvillain of Jeanerette; seven grandchildren, 
Marnie Dupuy, Robert Dupuy, Erika Bonvillain, Jake Bonvillain, Tara Bonvillain, 
Jason Bonvillain, and Zachary Bonvillain; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas 
Dupuy and Paisley Landry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Richard J. 
Bonvillain; and one sister, Ethel B. Braud.

Mrs. Flavia Elliot Elmore, 93, a resident and native of Franklin, died Tuesday, 
March 2, 2010, at 5:20 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital following a short 
illness.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Harris of the St. Joseph Community; two 
brothers, Verette Cleary of the St. Joseph Community and Aaron Cleary of 
Houston, Texas; one sister, Edna Mae Wren of Lafayette; 13 grandchildren; 30 
great grandchildren; and 18 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Elmore was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, two 
sons, one grandchild and four brothers.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at St. 
Stephen Baptist Church in Franklin.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at noon, at that church, with the Rev. 
Ulysses Mitchell Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellow 
Cemetery in Franklin.

the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette Martin Luther King, Jr. Award in 2007.

Rhea is survived by her husband, Lionel Johnson of Verdunville, La.; three 
daughters, Tori Johnson Walker (Warren) of Morgan City, La., Keia Johnson 
Vanderburg (Rhakeem) of Locust Grove, Ga., and Keri Johnson of New Orleans, La.; 
two brothers, Dewitt Lewis, Jr., and Kirk Lewis; and a sister, Deidra Lewis

Betty was survived by her husband, Gerald W. Thorn, a son, Cedric Smith both of

William E. Logan Sr., 75, a native of Paris, TX., and a resident of Franklin 
died, Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Franklin Health Care Center.

William is survived by two sons, Clifton E. Logan and his wife, Harriet, of 
Franklin, and William 'Eddie' E. Logan Jr. of Baldwin; four daughters, Sundie 
Hebert and her husband, Moise, of Jeanerette, Chenette Hymel and her husband, 
Tim, of Ponchatoula, Vanessa Verdin of St. Francisville, and Lori Verdin and her 
husband, Kevin, of Baldwin; his former wife, Janet Barrilleaux; three brothers, 
Larry Logan of Athens, TX., James Logan, and Ricky Logan, both of Cross Roads, 
TX.; thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Madison Edgar Logan and Lenora L. 
Logan; a brother, Jerry Logan; and a sister, Shirley Logan.

In keeping with William's wishes, his body has been donated to Louisiana's 
Anatomical Services for furthering the education of science.

A Memorial Services will be held for William on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 
1:00pm at the Little Pass Baptist Church in Charenton. Brother Bobby Hodnett 
will officiate the services.

The Logan family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Franklin 
Health Care Center and Heart of Hospice for their gentle and loving care of 
William during his final days.

Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia, for Bob Owens, 63, who passed away 
on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Lafayette.

Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Jeanerette. The Rev. David Denton 
will officiate.

Born on March 4, 1947, Bob is a former deputy of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff 
Department and was a yacht builder, having worked for Gulf Craft and Broward 
Marine. A veteran of the US Army, he enjoyed carpentry, golf, fishing, and being 
outdoors.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela Owen Fleet and husband, Mitchell, of 
Spring, Texas; sister, Irene Guillotte of Jeanerette; brothers, Whitney Owens 
Jr. and wife, Juanita, of New Iberia, Jimmy Owens Sr. and wife, Shannon, of 
Jeanerette and Steve Owens Sr. and wife, Darlene, of Jeanerette; and 
grandchildren, Victoria, Noah and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney Owens Sr. and Evelina Broussard 
Owens; and a brother, David Owens.

Pallbearers will be Steve Owens Sr., Rene Owens, Randy Owens Sr., Rusty Owens, 
Jason Broussard and Frank Myers. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Owens Sr. 
and Whitney Owens Jr.

A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. at 
Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd. in New Iberia. Visitation 
will continue Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.

GARDNER, CHARLES R. (PETE) 
May 19, 1916 ~ March 4, 2010

Charles R. (Pete) Gardner, 93, died suddenly and painlessly Thursday evening, 
March 4, 2010 with what is described as "old age" after spending a full 
enjoyable day with Martha Barrilleaux Gardner, his wife of 72 years. They were 
married April 23, 1938.

Mr. Gardner worked in the oil fields. He was born in Scurry, Texas.

He is survived by his three children, Wiley Gardner, Charles "Chalky" Gardner 
and Marcia Bailey; and his 10 grandchildren, Stephanie, Kathleen, Emily, John, 
Scott, Bob and Megan Gardner, and Julie, Erin and Lauren Bailey.

"Pete" was a generous and loving husband and father. His good nature, wisdom and 
smile will be missed by those who knew him.

Pete and Martha made arrangements years ago for their bodies to be donated to 
Tulane. The medical school will return "Pete's" ashes to the family after the 
medical studies are completed.

A memorial service will be announced at that time.

Gloria Rita St. Pierre Warren August 25, 1928 March 10, 2010

Gloria, 81 was born on August 25,1928 to Laura and Edmond St Pierre. She passed 
peacefully, in her sleep March 10,2010.

Gloria is survived by her children John Cain and his wife Margaret (Jenny) of 
Morgan City, Sheila Grow of Forkville, Ms., Jim Cain and wife Linda of Eagle 
River, AK., George B Cain Jr of Morgan City and Kim Naquin and husband Justin of 
Marksville. Also leaving behind to miss her, her faithful dog and loving 
companion "Taco", and her special niece Ruth Guidry, 19 grandchildren, 22 great- 
grandchildren and one great granddaughter due in June, numerous other family and 
friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edmond St. Pierre and Laura Borrel, her 
brothers, Edmond St. Pierre Jr. and Raymond St. Pierre, three sisters, Hazel 
Mire Hunt ,Violet Guidry and Lillian St. Pierre, her first husband and father of 
their children George B Cain Sr, husband Russell Warren, Infant daughter Sandra 
Kay Cain, son-in-law Eddie Grow, and grand-daughter Michelle Nebbergall.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Patterson Health Care Center for the 
care given to our mother during the last year of her life. We also want to thank 
the many friends she made while living there, for making her life so enjoyable.

We will miss you mama. Love, all your children !!

Visitation for Gloria Cain Warren will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City from 5pm until 8pm with a funeral service

David Luke Champagne, 22, a lifelong resident of Centerville, passed away 
Monday, March 15, 2010 at 3:05 PM at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

He was born in Lafayette on February 1, 1988 to Elby Champagne, Jr. and Betty Jo 
Pillaro Champagne. He was a 2006 graduate of Hanson Memorial High School. David 
had a great love of the outdoors and had a special appreciation for fishing and 
hunting. He was a member of the Bullet Bass Club, and the Louisiana Bass Anglers 
Association having participated in many fishing tournaments.

In addition to his parents, David is survived by one sister, Nicole Champagne 
Hidalgo and her husband, Hugh; three nieces, Miya, Bella, and Laila Hidalgo; his 
maternal grandparents, Myra and Joe Pillaro, Jr.; his paternal grandmother, 
Jeraldine Champagne, all of Centerville; and numerous aunts, uncles, and 
cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Elby Champagne, Sr.; and a 
cousin, Brian Walker, Jr.

Oneal Chube, age 88, a resident of Birmingham, Alab. and a native of St. 
Francisville, La., died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 9:00 Am at UAB Highland in 
Birmingham, Alab.

Born in St. Francisville, La., and raised in Baton Rouge, he dedicated his life 
to his family and community by educating and mentoring thousands of high school 
students as a teacher, administrator, and football coach for 26 years. Upon 
retirement, he served as business manager of Chube Medical Corporation in Gary, 
Indiana for 15 years, before retiring with his wife to reside in New Orleans. A 
proud World War II veteran, he served with honor during the D-Day Allied 
Invasion of Normandy through the Battle of the Bulge.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 25th, @ St. Jules Catholic Church, 1109 
Magnolia St., in Franklin, La., from 8:00 AM until 10:00 Am, rosary begans at 
10:00 Am until funeral @ 11:00 Am. Burial in Franklin Mausoleum, followed by a

Coach Chube was survived by his son, Frank Chube of Mitchellville, Md., three

GODFREY, BRACE JR.

Funeral services for Brace B. Godfrey Jr., 58, a resident of Baton Rouge and 
native of Ville Platte, was held Friday, Nov. 19, at noon, at Shiloh Baptist 
Church. The Rev. Charles T. Smith officiated. Visiting began at 9 a.m.

Godfrey passed away early Saturday morning, March 13, in his sleep from a heart 
attack. He was a civic leader, real estate developer and lawyer. Interment was 
at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.

Godfrey was a graduate of James Stephens High School of Ville Platte, Southern 
University of Baton Rouge and Southern University Law Center. He was the first 
African-American assigned to the full-time professional staff of the Louisiana 
Legislature and a former senior counsel to the Legislature; former partner-in-
charge at Adams and Reese law firm; first African-American chairman of the 
Chamber of Commerce of Greater Baton Rouge; and founding president of 100 Black 
Men of Baton Rouge.

He served on the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Baton Rouge Downtown Development 
Authority and Pennington Biomedical Foundation and was a founding investor and 
member of the board of Business First Bank in Baton Rouge. He was a member of 
Shiloh Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

His passing leaves a deep void for his wife of 35 years, Cynthia Taylor Godfrey; 
two children, Nathalie Nicole "Nikki" Godfrey and Brace B. "Trey" Godfrey III; 
and one grandson, Joshua Taylor Bennett Godfrey. Also celebrating his life are 
his mother, Ezola Godfrey of Ville Platte; four brothers, Curtis Lee Godfrey of 
Jackson, Mississippi; David Godfrey and spouse, Pat, of Houston; Donald Godfrey 
and spouse, Elaine, of Lafayette; and Paul Godfrey and spouse, Marian, of

Garry James Terry, 47, a native of Kingsville, TX and a resident of Centerville, 
passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 12:45 AM at his residence.

Garry was a devoted husband, fantastic father, and loving brother, who was 
employed by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for the past 19 
years. He was an avid bass fisherman, competed in many bass tournaments, and 
loved fishing with his wife. He enjoyed woodworking, do-it-yourself projects, 
helping others, cooking, and just spending time with his family and friends.

Garry is survived by his wife of 20 years, Andre' Rogers Terry of Centerville; 
his daughter, Ashton Olivia Terry of Centerville; three brothers, Larry Gene 
Terry of Centerville, Robert "Bobby" Anthony Terry of Centerville, and Mark 
Edward Terry and his wife, Karen Luke Terry, of Centerville; two sisters, Linda 
Terry Fouquier of Addis, and Mary Ellen Terry of Centerville; numerous nieces 
and nephews, and one great nephew; his dog, Blaze; and his two cats, Figit and 
Jasper.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. "Bud" Terry and his mother, Lena 
Mae Perera Terry.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday, March 24th, at 
Ibert's Mortuary, from 6 PM until 9 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 6:30 PM. 
Visitations will resume Thursday, March 25th, at Ibert's Mortuary at 10 AM until 
12:30 PM.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church 
in Centerville. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Ruben 
Primor will conduct the services.

Pallbearers will be Larry Terry, Mark Terry, Mikey Fouquier, Clint Terry, Clay 
Terry, Brendan Terry, Troy Naquin, and Alan Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 
at the Church of the Assumption for Annie Belle Monte Giordano, 96, who passed 
away on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at 1:15 AM at Cornerstone Village South in 
Lafayette.

Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will

Mrs. Annie is survived by one son, Santo Giordano and his wife, Charlotte, of 
Lafayette; two daughters, Mary Lena G. Woods and her husband, Michael, of 
Lafayette, and Frances Ann G. Sinitiere and her husband, David, of Lafayette. 
She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Mandie Shook and her husband, 
Stephen, Frank Giordano, April Marquis and her husband, Robbie, Brigitte Meaux 
and her husband, Jamie, and Scott Sinitiere; and eight great grandchildren, 
Logan, Anna, and Carter Meaux, Caitlin, Grant, and Connor Marquis, and Ashley 
and Alexis Shook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Giordano; her parents, Peter and 
Lena Martina Monte; three brothers, Joe, Sam, and Louis P. Monte; and one 
sister, Josephine Lorino.

She was born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama, but lived in Franklin for fifty 
years. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, 
Franklin Foundation Hospital Pink Lady Auxiliary, AARP, and a pokeno club for 
thirty years.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday, March 24, at the 
Church of the Assumption from 10 AM until Mass time, with the rosary being 
prayed at 11:30 AM.

Funeral services for Ms. Alice Armstead, 68, who died on Thursday, March 18,

Mrs. Armstead was the fourth child born to the late Alfred and Ruth Long 
Armstead Sr. in Weeks Island.

LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Norris "Loul" Simon, 89, was held at 
1 p.m. Monday, March 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Gary Schexnider 
officiating.

Visitation was at David Funeral Home of Lafayette Sunday, March 21, from 1 p.m. 
until 9 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m.

Visitation resumed on Monday, March 22, from 8 a.m. until the time of the 
services. Interment followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Simon, a native of Maurice and a resident of Franklin, died at 3:36 p.m. on 
Friday, March 19, 2010. 

He was known for gardening, telling Cajun stories and being a very hard worker. 
He was also a member of Woodmen of the World and C.C. Camp.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Montet of Franklin; son, Norris C. Simon and 
Patricia Andres of Franklin; three daughters, Linda and her husband, Al, of 
Baldwin, Joan and her husband, Charles, of Sorrell and Mary and her husband,

Mrs. Lillian Josie Armelin Smith, 81, a resident of Jeanerette and native of

She is survived by one son, Ronald Smith of Jeanerette; one sister, Lucille

and one brother.

Visitations will be observed Tuesday, March 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 
at the Holy Family Mausoleum Chapel in New Iberia.

To our friends and listeners in Morgan City and other parts of St. Mary Parish:

We lost our grandmother last Friday, and wanted to share this news with so many 
of you. She was 89, and had just lost her only sister this January, Rita Burke, 
who was 90.

Estelle, "Grandma" known by most, lived with us in Morgan City since August 
2005.

Estelle had three children and she had three grandchildren. Howard was her 
firstborn and remains her only grandson. Estelle also adored Darlene, who cared 
and loved her as if she were her own.

We would like to thank Dr. Arlette Delcham, who was her physician while she 
stayed with us. Grandma really loved and appreciated her.

She enjoyed attending events in the area, especially the Community Action and 
Teche Action Clinic banquets. Her favorite spots, however, were visits to 
Cypress Bayou and the Amelia Belle Casinos.

As a special note, we began our first broadcast as KBZE 105.9 FM, at 12:01 a.m. 
on Jan. 1, 1993, Estelle's 72nd birthday. She was our number one fan, and she 
will be sadly missed.

Eldridge Joseph "E.J." Bertrand Sr. a native of Rayne and a resident of Morgan 
City passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Teche Regional Medical Center. 
Mr. E.J. served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 
1956. He enjoyed camping with the Bayou Ramblers, working in his garden and 
cooking for a host of family and friends.

Mr. E.J. is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Emma Chaisson Bertrand, 
four daughters; Donna Sue Jones and her husband, Edward, Faith Ann Wilson, 
Monica Governale, and Deborah Keller and her husband, Donald, one son, Eldridge 
Joseph "E.J." Bertrand Jr. and his wife, Chary. He is also survived by his 
grandchildren; Danielle Arceneaux and her husband, John, Karen Burch and her 
husband, Charles, Jackie Wilson, Emma Dorics and her husband, Troy, Nick 
Governale Jr., Robert Keller and his wife, Kim, Jessica Feliciano and her

Norma Breaux Lombas, a native and resident of Morgan City died at her residence 
on Thursday March 25, 2010, after a lengthy illness.

Norma was always helping others when she knew there was a need. She loved her 
church which was Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and she was a person of strong 
faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Ladies Altar 
Society, a Eucharistic Minister, and a Lector, and a former member of the Sacred 
Heart Parish Council.

Norma is survived by her daughter Molly L Sours, and her husband Shawn of 
Patterson, three grand children, Sondra Thomas, Patrick Lombas, and Philamena, 
three great grand children, Kaylee Mae Bailey, Morrison Yetter, and Roran Sayna, 
a brother, Edmond Breaux of California and a sister, Joan Alpha, of Patterson, 
La.

She was preceeded in death by her mother and father,Lelia Arcemont and Moleon 
Paul Breaux, her husband, Harold Lombas, one great grand son, Brian Joseph

Mr. Tran is survived by his wife of 33 years, Hue Nguyen of Baldwin; his mother, 
To Nguyen of New Orleans; six sons, Quyen Tran, Michael Tran, Anh Tran, Tu Tran, 
De Tran, and Huy Tran all of Baldwin; five daughters, Trinh Tran of Lafayette, 
Huyen Tran of Baldwin, Trang Tran of Lafayette, Thuey-Tren Lancon and her 
husband, Scott, of Jeanerette, Tuyet-Nhi Tran and her husband, Christopher 
Perego, of Baldwin; seven brothers, Khuyen Tran of New Orleans, Chi Tran of New 
Orleans, Ben Tran of New Orleans, Ming Tran of New Orleans, Thuan Tran of 
Baldwin, My Tran of New Orleans, and Hung Tran of Franklin; and two 
grandchildren, Brianna and Dominic Madison.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thiet Tran.

Charles Desormeaux Sr., 60, a native of New Iberia and a resident of Franklin 
died, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Charles is survived by his wife, Peggy Blackwell Desormeaux of Franklin; two 
sons, Charles Desormeaux Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Moss Bluff, and Chad 
Desormeaux and his wife, Ruth, of Lake Charles; one daughter, Charlene D. 
Kreamer and her husband, Daniel, of Lafayette, NJ.; one step daughter, Vicki 
White of Franklin; three brothers, Jay Desormeaux Sr. of Anahuac, TX., Floyd 
Desormeaux Sr. of Baton Rouge, and Dalton Desormeaux Sr. of Baldwin; two 
sisters, Nola Migues of Delcambre, and Lou Ann Haught of Sulpher; six 
grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Desormeaux Sr.; his mother, 
Ernestine Meaux Desormeaux; a brother, Sid Desormeaux and an infant sister.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday, March 29, 2010 from 
9:30 am to 12 pm at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 29th at 12 pm at Ibert's with 
Brother Donnie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Franklin 
Cemetery.

Douglas Paul Smith, 50, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin died, 
Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 7:05pm at the Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Douglas is survived by his daughter, Rochelle Ann Smith of Jeanerette; his 
companion, Kimberly Clark; his father, Merrill Smith Sr. of Franklin; his 
mother, Jo Ann Peltier Smith of Franklin; three brothers, Merrill Smith Jr. of 
Jennings, Gary Smith of Plano, TX., and Dennis Smith of Covington; and two 
sisters, Donna Robison of Baldwin, and Michelle Pontiff of Jeanerette, and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 
10am to 12pm at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin.

Funeral Services for Douglas will be held on Tuesday, March 30th at 12pm at 
Ibert's with Father Bill Crumbly officiating. Burial will follow in the Sacred

U.S. Veteran Sam Vaccarella February 7, 1938 - March 27, 2010 Sam Vaccarella, 
72, a Morgan City native and resident, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 4:35 
p.m. at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. 

Visitation will be today, March 29, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Twin City 
Funeral Home in Morgan City. Visitation will continue Tuesday, March 30, 2010, 
at 8 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the 
funeral home with the Rev. Noah Kerketta officiating. Burial will follow in the 
Morgan City Cemetery. 

Sam is survived by his sisters, Mary Anne Vaccarella and Carrie Bernucho and her 
husband, Nolan, all of Morgan City; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Marino Vaccarella; 
three sisters, Rose Hepler, Frances Michel and Josephine Thomas; and two 
brothers, Maurice Vaccarella and Carlo Vaccarella. 

Sam was employed as a teacher for many years in St. Mary Parish. Additionally, 
he covered high school sports part-time for The Daily Review. 

The family would like to thank all who cared for Sam during his brief illness.

BOREL, EMILE J. 

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Master Sgt. Emile J Borel, U.S. Army (Ret.), 85, of Columbia, 
South Carolina died on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Dorn VA Medical Center. 

He was born on August 31, 1924 in Franklin, the son of the late Nelson Joseph 
Borel and Rita Parrah Borel. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester 
Borel; and two sisters, Margie Sinitiere and Pearl Clements.

The rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 28 at Greenlawn Funeral Home 
Chapel, and visitation followed from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Graveside services were held by Father Richard Harris in Fort Jackson National 
Cemetery on Monday, March 29, at 12 noon, with full military honors.

A memorial service honoring Mr. Borel will be held at a later date in his home 
town of Franklin.

Mr. Borel was a truly great man and a gentle soul He was a veteran of World War 
II, Korea, and the Vietnam wars. He later worked at Fort Jackson in the AG 
Section. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Peggy Decuir Borel of Columbia; daughter, 
Pamela and husband, John Miranda; his beloved grandson, Paul N. Miranda; 
sisters, Delores Mello and Rita Mae Borel of Franklin; and many other relatives 
and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to St Joseph 
Capital Campaign or Cardinal Newman Building Fund.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Dorn VA Medical 
Center and also the staff of the 3rd Floor Hospice Warriors Walk for their 
compassion and care; and also his primary care doctor, Dr. Donny Peter and his 
staff.

Mr. Thomas Tillman Jr., 53, a resident and native of Franklin, died Friday, 
March 26, 2010, at 11:20 a.m., at his residence following a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Emily M. Howard Tillman of New Iberia; one daughter, 
Alichia S. Sereal of Houston, Texas; four stepdaughters, Beverly L. Howard of 
New Iberia, Northa L. Linzer of Lafayette, La'Esau L. Lewis of St. Martinville 
and LaKeisha Alexander Tatum and husband, Rickey, of Killeen, TX; two brothers, 
Henry Felder and his wife, Eula, of New Iberia and Rodney Tillman Sr. of 
Franklin; three sisters, Cleotha Tillman Joseph and Dianna T. Alexander and her 
husband, Albert A. of Franklin and Willie Mae Tillman Johnson and her husband, 
William of Dallas, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

   Mr. Tillman was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Visitations will be observed Tuesday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the 
Otis Mortuary Chapel.

Burial rites will be read Tuesday, at 11 a.m., at the mortuary, with the Rev. 
Preston Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery in 
Franklin.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.
