Born May 13, 1917, he was a native of Berwick. Herman, along with brother, owned R & H Grocery from the early 1940's to 1957. During this time, Herman had to leave the family business for four years to serve in the army during World War II. In 1957, the brothers relocated to their new store renamed Plessala's Super Market. Herman retired from the grocery business in 1981. Besides owning and operating a business, Herman was also involved in many civic projects. In 1946, he was elected to the Berwick town council, for which he served two terms. He served as Mayor Pro-Tem for one of his two terms. Herman later served on the St. Mary Parish School Board for ten years from 1965 to 1976. He served as vice president of the board for one of his terms. Throughout the years, Herman also belonged to various civic organizations. Herman loved the outdoors and especially loved hunting and fishing. He and his relatives and friends would form a boat caravan as they traveled down the river to go fishing or to go duck hunting. After his retirement in 1981, he and his wife spent much time at their "home way from home" in Grand Isle. When he was in Grand Isle, he was fishing, and he fished as much as he could until he sold the camp in 2007. Herman is survived by one son, the Reverend Randy Plessala, Sr., and his wife Diana, of Berwick; one daughter, Darlene Skelton, and her husband John, of Berwick; five grandchildren, Bliss Harris, Randy Plessala, Jr., Alison Head, Michael Skelton, and Matthew Skelton; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Peltier Plessala, his parents Mrytile and Delia Guidry Plessala; two brothers, William Plessala and Roy "Mitt" Plessala, Sr., and four sisters, Winnie Kiffe, Gretel Ross, Della Mae Dragna, and Evelyn Viviano. Visitation will be tonight, Monday, May 24, 2010, from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. At 7 P.M., family and friends will be given an opportunity to reflect and to share memories of their times with Herman. Visitation will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 11 A.M. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick, with funeral services beginning at 1 P.M. Herman will be entombed in the Berwick Mausoleum. ===================
