A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday May 25, at 8:30 a.m., at the St. John the Evangelist Parish Hall in Jeanerette. A native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette, Wayne died Monday, May 10 2010, at 9:06 a.m., in a New Iberia hospital. Wayne retired from Texaco Inc. after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a star athlete for Hanson High School under Coach Richard "Rock" McCloskey. He also played for the Southwest All-stars at LSU stadium in Baton Rouge and the All-Star Baseball team at Alex Box Stadium. He was an avid LSU fan. He enjoyed going to the LSU games with his friends and cousins, Jr. Lancon, Wallace Lancon and Jules Levy to tailgate at Alex Box stadium before the game. Survivors include many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenis and Beulah Simoneaux Lancon. Donations may be made in Wayne's name to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
