In his 56 years of life, he proved to be one of those unique individuals who had a profound affect on everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a true individual in every sense of the word. His wit and charm left everlasting impressions to be dearly cherished. After a lengthy battle with cancer, he peacefully departed on June 11, 2010. In our family we are frequently reminded that the first and last children are deemed "perfect." Gus, of course, being the eldest of his siblings. While he would be too humble to refer to himself that way, it is the way he will be remembered. There was rarely a topic on which he could not enlighten those around him. His vast knowledge never ceased to astound his family and friends. He quenched his quest for learning by obtaining his high school diploma from Berwick High School in 1972, and then a degree from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Gus also touched many lives in the oil and marine vessel industry over his many years of employment at Seahorse, Tidewater, Oceaneering, and most recently Gator Tank Rentals. Gus's beloved mother, Gayle, has instituted a family tradition of Sunday lunch. Gus sat at the head of the table, and for a majority of the meals was the only male in the room. He would usually sit quietly, taking in the constant chatter and would only interject on subjects worthy of his comments. He is probably the only one at the table who thought before he spoke, which is why his interjections were so witty and profound. It will certainly not be the same without him. Gus was the most giving and generous person anyone could know. He was the proud father of a son who came into his life at the age of four. Michael is fortunate to have been able to emanate some of Gus' best traits. They were truly a pair who complimented each other. Then the bachelors welcomed a new addition to the family eighteen years ago when Gus found the love of his life in his dear friend Sabrina. Their unconditional love was evident to anyone who knew them. She truly taught Gus to live life to the fullest. Gus may not have had enough spunk to get onto a Harley or proudly wear his kilt without Sabrina by his side. She was his perfect compliment and gave him the happiest years of his life. Earlier this week his dear mother said that "he just has so much more life to live." Those whom he has left behind would have loved to see that happen, but it would not have been Gus if he could not continue to seize each day as he did throughout his life. Gus will be sadly missed, but always fondly remembered. Gus is survived by his true love, his wife, Sabrina Martin Arnould, his son, Michael J. Scott; his mother, Gayle Driskill Arnould; his father, August J. Arnould, Sr., mother-n-law, Barbara Sands, three sisters, Kim A. Alcina, Lisa A. Omota, Nancy A. Premeaux; one brother, Bernie M. Arnould, one half-brother, Patrick Arnould; brother-in -law, Michael D. McIntyre; nieces and nephews: Melanie Williams and her husband Scott, Michael McIntyre II, Joey Alcina and his wife Kristi, Amy Owens, Annie McIntyre and her fiancˇ, Chris LeBlanc, and Garrett McIntyre; great-nieces and nephews, Trent, Laini, Sarah, Ridge, Blake, Kayla, Brady, Zachary, Scotty, Carter, Isabella, and Shae. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bernie M. Driskill and Beulah Leftwich Driskill; paternal grandparents, Viola Gros and Paul Arnould; his sister Lori Arnould McIntyre; his father-in-law Mac Sands; and Sabrina's grandparents, Cooley and Cornelia Lee. Services were held at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City, Louisiana and were officiated by Gus's nephew, Rev. Mr. Garrett McIntyre. Visitation and remembrance were on Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm and Monday, June 14, 2010 from 11:00am - 2:00 pm. Funeral services and interment were at 2:00pm in the Berwick Mausoleum. Pallbearers were Bernie Arnould, Joey Alcina, Wayne Eastling, Ronnie "Juice" Estay, James Romero, and Sandy Percle. Honorary pallbearers included Michael Scott, Patrick Taff, Sid Barras, and Harry Wiggins. To honor his legacy, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Gus's name. The family would also like to extend a special note of gratitude to the entire staff of Teche Regional Medical Center. Every person who came into contact with Gus provided him with exceptional care which made his final days as comfortable as possible. ===================
