Oscar Joseph Bergeron Jr., 84, a native of Ashland Plantation and a resident of Houma, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma. Visitation was held Monday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Houma, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Shenan J. Boquet at 11 a.m. Burial was in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 in Houma. Mr. Oscar, more known as "Shine", is survived by his wife of 8 years, Rosalie Brien Dumond Bergeron; eight children, Oscar Joseph Bergeron III and wife, Laura, of Franklin; Paula B. Michel and husband, Charles, of Metairie; Amy B. Rock of Houma; Amanda B. Porter and husband, Donald, of Ellettsville, Indiana; Fay B. Theriot and husband, Lanny, of Houma; Gerard L. Bergeron of Houma; Jennifer B. Detiveaux and husband, Kenneth, of Metairie; and Jill B. Theriot and husband, Damien, of Houma; one son-in-law, Perry Breaux of Houma; three stepchildren, Karen D. Belanger and husband, Lawrence, of Houma; Allen Dumond and wife, Becky, of Houma; and Mark Dumond and wife, Dawn, of Houma; 18 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five step-great- grandchildren; one brother, Rubin Bergeron; and one sister, Betty B. Luke Hebert. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Mary Haydel Bergeron; his parents, Oscar Joseph Bergeron Sr. and Lillian Bellisle Bergeron; one daughter, Mary Beth B. Breaux; one stepson, Keith Dumond; one granddaughter, Rebecca Leigh Michel; one brother, Luby Bergeron; and one sister, Elma B. Vice. Mr. Bergeron served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the D-Day Invasion. He was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church; a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War. He was also a member of the Krewe of Christopher and Krewe of Terreanians Carnival clubs of Houma. Chauvin Funeral Home, of Houma, was in charge of arrangements. ===================
