Crumley, CSC officiating. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery in Charenton. A Gathering of family and friends will be at the church on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me besides the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the path of righteous for his name's sake." Mabel Sigue Martin entered her earthly life on June 9, 1908. She was one of seven children born to the late Emile and Leona Sigue. She was married for many years to Willie Martin and was the mother of one son, Floyd. Mabel had the privilege of living in many places in Louisiana and Texas; however, Charenton was always deep in her heart. "Calo" as she was so lovingly known had a deep love for people. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and to share whatever she had with anyone in need. She was a mother to many and a Sage to all. The many years God blessed her with were not in vain, for she was the true matriarch of the family who listened to everyone's woes, held many hands, and provided a strong shoulder to cry on. She was willing to share her infinite wisdom but never judged. With her calm demeanor, she listened and shared. With her dazzling smile, she made you feel special, but with her honesty, she would keep you in line. After years of preparation, Mabel moved to her eternal home on Friday, June 18, 2010. She leaves a legacy of love to be remembered by many including three grandchildren, Floyd Jr., Charles and Maria Pecot of New Orleans; several devoted nieces, Gwen Milo, Margaret Dunne and Barbara (John) Taylor of Alexandria; Isabella (Irving) Gasper of Charenton; and Julie of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a devoted great niece, Mary Burgess of Oceanside, California; her devoted great niece and caregiver, Esther Brown of Charenton; several devoted nephews, Nathan, Melvin and Vincent Sigue Jr., as well as Tommy Milo of Alexandria; two devoted great nephews, Johnny Larry (Amanda) of Baldwin and Reginald Brown of Charenton. Calo will be loved and forever remember by many other family members and friends including Muriel B. Lewis of New Iberia; and a devoted friend and caregiver, Maggie Drexler of Baldwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lessie and Leola; four brothers, Vincent, August, Gilbert and Martin; her husband, her son, two nieces, Lorenza and Brenda and a devoted friend, Wilbert Fletcher. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Milo, Reginald Brown, Darren Sigur, Michael Dunne, Johnny Larry and Keenan Larry. Honorary pallbearers will be John Taylor, Floyd Pecot Jr., Charles Pecot, Melvin Sigur, Vincent Sigur Jr. and Nathan Sigur. Arrangements are under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Home, 609 West Admiral Doyle Drive in New Iberia. =================== ========== A photo is available for this file.
