All rights reserved. http://theusgenweb.net/copyright.htm http://theusgenweb.net/la/lafiles.htm ======================================================================= NOTE: If a Photo is available for an obituary record, a reference note will be included with the record. =========================================================== LIRETTE, CONRAD JOSEPH Conrad Joseph Lirette, 99, a resident of Bayou Black, died peacefully at home on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 3:20 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010, from 9 a.m. until service time at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Houma. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, August 19, 2010, at noon at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with burial following at Bayou Black Cemetery. Conrad was a member of the first graduating class of the Lorton Preparatory School in 1931. He attended Delgado in New Orleans and worked in that city for a short while with Merrill Lynch. His love for Terrebonne Parish, fishing and hunting prompted his return to Houma in 1934. He was employed by Humble Oil (Standard Oil), retiring after 30 years. He and family members grew and sold Easter lily bulbs, on land later developed as Plantation Gardens. In addition, he developed other properties in the Bayou Black area along Savanne Road and Lirette Street. In 1952, he formed the Conrad Lirette Boat Co. and later Bayou Barge Co. Inc. from which he operated his various businesses. He worked into his 80s leasing land for various oil companies. Conrad Lirette was the first King of Hycinthians and an original member of the Terraineans Carnival Club. He loved this parish and was honored to be elected police juror for Ward 9 for eight years from 1964-1972. He was proud to be a member of the board of directors of American Bank from 1967-1996. He was a parishioner and a former usher of St. Anthony of Padua Church and was a member of the Bayou Black Fire Department. His later years were spent quietly with his family, bringing joy and love to each with his gentle and thoughtful manner. Conrad was the devoted and loving father of three daughters, Constance "Connie" Casente, Mary Elizabeth Lirette (Vest), Alexis Hellman, wife of Stephen Hellman, MD, and stepfather of Celseter J. Brien. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Sal Casente Jr., Mary Catherine Glass, Lisa Hebert, Susan Connick, Arlen Vest, Derek Vest, Tara Vest, Daniel Hellman, John Hellman, Stephen Hellman and Alexander Hellman; and step-grandchildren, Shane Brien, Brian Brien, Aimee Johnson, Al Jean Lirette, Gary Paul Lirette and Jack Lirette; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The oldest of 11 children, he is survived by Reggie Lirette Sr., Shirley Thibodeaux and Dale Lirette, all of Houma, Charles Elliot Lirette of Moon, Va., and Murray Lirette of Slidell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sadie Tregre Lirette; his first wife, Bertha Mey Baldwin; his parents, Alexander and Edith Prejean Lirette; stepson, Jean Mey Lirette; son-in-law, Sal Casente, MD; two grandchildren, Gina Maria Casente and Mary Elizabeth Casente; brothers, Alexander Lirette and Raymond Lirette; and sisters, Edith Lirette, Marion Russell and Elizabeth Dawson. The family would like to acknowledge his devoted caregivers, Vera Landry, Janice McGuin, Debra Vasquez and Tina Dardar.
