Danny is survived by his wife, Cindy Hancock Smathers of Lafayette; two daughters, Andrea Smathers and Ashley Smathers, both of Charenton; a stepson, Adam Soulier of Youngsville; his parents, Byron and Lorene Smathers, formerly of Franklin; his sister, Catherine "Cathy" Smathers Mire of Satellite Beach, FL; one grandson, Connor Aaron Simoneaux of Charenton; three nephews, Mike Smathers, Brian Gautreaux and Logan Mire; and one niece, Linda Bell. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Aaron Soulier; two brothers, Phillip "Phil": Smathers and Michael "Mickey" Smathers; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and his beloved dog, M.D. The Smathers family requests that visitation be observed Friday, September 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin. Visitation will resume Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m., at Ibert's until time of services. Funeral services for Danny will be held on Saturday Sept. 25, at 2 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Danny will be included in Terrebonne General's Wall of Heroes for his belief in donation for furthering life. Danny, following that belief, was an organ donor. Danny was a loving person, who supported St. Jude's Children's Hospital and many other charities that would help animals. He often would take in strays from the street and provide them with warm and caring homes. He was proud to have played an instrumental role in creating Legislature to protect redfish from gill nets. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin. ===================
