Born in Patterson on December 3, 1931, Dixie grew up and went to school in Jeanerette. Dixie furthered her education at SLI (now UL) in Lafayette and graduated with a B. A. in Lower Elementary Education. While attending college she was a member of the pep squad called the Red Jackets. After graduating from college, Dixie married and started her teaching career in Patterson. She also taught at Bayou Vista Elementary and at M. D. Shannon. After teaching many years she retired from St. Mary Parish and remained active as a volunteer in the school system. Dixie also enjoyed cooking and baking. She was noted for her red velvet cakes and pecan pies among family and friends who she loved very much. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, visiting with family and friends and taking care of her dogs. Dixie was living in Lafayette at the time of her death. Dixie is survived by her daughter, Linda Lancon of Lafayette; her sisters, Tommie and her husband, Ray Gutzman, of Golden, Colo., and Betty Gomez Fourroux of Jeanerette; and her faithful companions, Angie and June. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Lancon; her parents, Milton and Clemence Hebert Gomez; and her sister, Germaine Gomez. Visitation will be Wednesday December 22, 2010, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010, in the Hargrave Funeral Home Chapel. ===================
