She was 86 years of age. She was a faithful, loving, patient and devoted wife to Jerry Gilmore, Sr. In his personal journals, he called her, "The Love of My Life." They shared almost 60 years together as husband and wife; they were 2 months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary when Jerry went home to be with the LORD in 2008. She loved reading as a young girl and more so as an adult, especially mysteries. She was a self-taught and highly gifted seamstress making numerous wedding gowns, fitted suits for men and women, children's and baby's clothes, bridesmaid's dresses and formals for her daughter and others. She was skilled at crocheting, too, making elaborate Afghans. Laura was a superb cook much like her mother, Anna Lee, and her sister, Alberta. Throughout her life, she adored working in the yard and planting all manner of flowers and plants whenever she had the extra time to invest. Laura's loved ones who were awaiting her arrival to heaven with hugs and kisses, were her parents, Albert and Anna Lee Smith, her brother, Sam Smith, her sister, Alberta Crappell, her beloved husband, Jerry, whom she missed terribly after his death, her stepson, whom she loved and reared as her own child, Jerry Gilmore, Jr. and his son, David Buley, her first-born son, Craig Gilmore and his precious wife, Margaret Mahler Gilmore. Since both the Smith and Gilmore families are extremely large, there were also countless relatives eager to greet her into God's marvelous kingdom, as well as dear friends too. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Gilmore from Monroe, LA, who had been residing in Broussard, LA, for the last three and a half years, while caring for both Jerry and Laura, and her two younger sons, Robin Gilmore along with his wife, Kay Martin Gilmore of Houma, LA, and Kevin Gilmore along with his wife, Nita Landry Gilmore of Broussard, LA. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren - Jerrel Buley of Oklahoma, Scott Gilmore, Kelly Fanguy, Jared Gilmore, Amelia Gilmore, Damon Gilmore, Hannah Gilmore, Kendall Gilmore and Adam Gilmore, all of Louisiana, except for Amelia who is teaching in South Korea - and 4 great grandchildren - Hunter and Dalton Buley, Julia Margaret Gilmore, and Logan James Fanguy. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jerrel Buley, Scott Gilmore, Jared Gilmore, Damon Gilmore, Kendall Gilmore, and Adam Gilmore, and her granddaughter's husband, Steven Fanguy. Visitation will be held Monday, 5PM until 8PM at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City, LA, continuing Tuesday, 12PM until time of services at 2PM. Burial will be in the Berwick Cemetery. ===================
