"SONNY" SR. October 7, 1937 - January 26, 2011 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan.29, 2011, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia for Sonny Greer, 73, who passed away Wednesday, Jan.26, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Deacon Wade Broussard will officiate. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Leonard E. "Sonny" Greer Sr. was born on Oct. 7, 1937, in Gretna, where he lived his earlier years. Sonny moved to New Iberia with his family, attending New Iberia High School. After graduating in 1955, he married Geraldine C. "Dean" Hebert on Sept. 9, 1956. Sonny began his working career with Krauss and Managan Lumber as a bookkeeper. He was then employed with Schlumberger for 12 years, working part-time with Teche Lumber building homes and developing business contacts. In 1977, he founded Sonny Greer Construction and upon his retirement in 2002; the next generation continues to operate the company today. Sonny's hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling the countryside with his wife, barbecuing, going to the casino, and gardening. He loved riding his tractor, laughing, joking and being surrounded by his family. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Geraldine "Dean" Hebert Greer of New Iberia; son, Leonard "Len" E. Greer Jr. and wife, Carol Barrilleaux Greer, of New Iberia; daughters, Bridgette A. Greer and friend, Cynthia "CJ" Joubert, of Youngsville, Brenda A. Greer Pesson Breaux of Dallas, Ga., and Belinda A. "Ben" Greer Guillory and husband, Mike Guillory, of New Iberia; grandchildren, Chad N. Pesson and wife, Lauren Gerac Pesson, Olivia C. Greer, Travis M. Guillory, and Danny J. Viator II and wife, Simone Duhon Viator; great- grandchildren, Mason Pesson, Avery Pesson, and Addyson Viator; and nieces and nephews, Stephanie D. Strickland and husband, Gary, Cynthia D. DuBois and husband, Jeff, Earl J. Delcambre Jr., and Michael W. Delcambre and wife, Rose Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Duncan Greer and Lena Pennison Greer; and his sister, Sylvia Greer Delcambre Landry. Pallbearers will be Len Greer, Chad Pesson, Travis Guillory, Mike Guillory, Dayton Oliver and Richard Delaune. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Lydia Cancer Association, P. O. Box 731, Lydia, LA 70569. The Greer family would like to express their gratitude to St. Theresa's Hospice and Palliative Care and the many family, friends and loved ones that went to visit Sonny. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. ===================
