June 21, 1921 - January 10, 2011 Sam L. Levatino was born June 21, 1921, and passed away, Monday, January 10, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 89, and a native and resident of Independence. Mr. Sam is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosalie LaMarca Levatino; two daughters, Cindy Martin and husband, Reggie, of Independence, and Cathy Russo and husband, Salvadore J. Jr., of Morgan City; five grandchildren, Regina M. Martin, Jason M. Martin, Salvadore J. Russo III, Philip A. Russo, and Catherine Rose Russo; one great-grandchild, Isabelle Rose Martin; three brothers, Joseph Levatino and wife, Helga, of Terrytown, Philip Levatino Jr. and wife, Helen, of Yellville, Ark., and Angelo T. Levatino of Independence; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Levatino was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Ida Annie Magliolo Levatino; and nephew, Michael Levatino. Visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence will be today, Wednesday, January 12, 2011, from 10 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. with Fr. Howard Adkins officiating. Interment will be in Colonial Mausoleum, Independence. Family request Memorial Donations be made to Mater Dolorosa Catholic School, 483 Pine Street, Independence, LA 70443.
