Burton graduated top of his class in 1957 from Delcambre High School where he played high school football and ran track. His senior year he joined the Navy Reserves, serving active duty on a destroyer from 1957 to 1959. He remained in the Navy Reserves for a total of 8 years. Burton was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was well liked and loved by all, making many life long friends. He was known for his generosity, honesty, fairness, dependability, and great sense of humor. Burton's word was as good as gold. He was a great judge of character and wisdom came naturally to him. He loved the water, spending a great deal of time camping and fishing surrounded by family and friends where there was always a lot of good cooking, music, and laughter. He was a person you just couldn't get enough of because he was so fun to be around. Burton was a "give you the shirt off of his back" kind of person. He never knew a stranger, and always made a lasting impression. He lived life to the fullest. Burton will be dearly missed by all, and always remembered.
