Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will officiate the services. Jack was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family "big time", as he would often say. He was born in Ogemaw, Arkansas on June 17, 1923 to the late Dawson Poindexter and Oda Guttry Poindexter. His mother passed away when he was only five years old. He was raised by his father and loving step mother, Josephine Mosley Poindexter in Camden, Arkansas until the age of 14. In 1941 he moved to Lafayette, LA to live with an aunt. After graduating from Lafayette High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served overseas during World War II with the rank of Sergeant as a tail gunner. Following his military duty, he moved back to Lafayette and worked for Dalferes Cigar and Tobacco Co. Upon the advise of Mr. Clay L. Dalferes, his employer, he moved to Franklin in 1948 and opened up Franklin Cigar & Tobacco Company at 402 Willow Street. After several moves the business was permanently moved to 75 Lee Street in 1972, where the business exists today. He became a very successful businessman and community leader and was a dedicated and hard working man. He believed if he could sell himself, he would have a successful business. He also believed in giving back to the community some of what he so generously received. He was known all over Franklin for his beautiful and fragrant roses which he loving grew and generously shared with many people. He was a fourth degree member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Franklin Council 1420, past Vice President of the Franklin Jaycees, a charter member of the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Directors of Commercial Bank & Trust Company, and was a faithful member of Church of Assumption. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Kathryn Broussard Poindexter of Franklin; three children, Sheri P. Silva and her husband Michael Silva of Franklin, Mark Poindexter and his wife Debby H. Poindexter of Youngsville, and Evie P. Genovese and her husband Joseph Genovese of West Palm Beach, Florida; six grandchildren, Aimee Darden, Joni Mason, Mark Paul Poindexter, Marcy Poindexter, Kily Landen and Caroline Markerson; six great grandchildren, Emilee Darden, Maloree Darden, Emily Mason, Gunner Jeske and Julia Mason.
