He is survived by his wife, of 56 years, the former Dorothy Morgan; four children; 13 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren, Kathryn "KayCee" Cruzen of Houston (Will, Connie, Brooks and Leah), Lori Smith of Dallas (Lindsay and Taylor), Dave Thompson of The Woodlands (Mike, David, Cassie and Becky) and JoRhetta Allred, also of Houston (Laura, Mallory and Hanna); and great grandchildren, Zoe Tanner and Ali Gail. Mr. Thompson was born July 1, 1930 in Elizabeth, Louisiana, the only child of Charles Virgil Thompson and Blanche Elma Sargent. He spent much of his young life camping with his friends while earning the rank of Eagle Scout; he was able to pass along this love for the outdoors to his family, as they are all avid campers today. His patriotism transitioned from Eagle Scout to the military as he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion. His respect for education was evident throughout his life as he received his Bachelor's degree in 1950 from SLI (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and completed his Master's degree in 1955 at Louisiana State University. Teaching was his passion; he served 42 years as an educator - principal, supervisor, history and English teacher, counselor, and coach - most of which was in Iberia Parish. After retiring from public education, he served as principal of St. Joseph School in Jeanerette and teacher/counselor at Hanson Memorial High School in Franklin. He and his wife both retired to Houston, Texas in 2000. He further pursued his love of learning through reading and religious studies. He was a member of the LSU Alumni Association and loved everything LSU! A memorial service for Mr. Thompson will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at The Forum, Cypress Creek Christian Church, Spring, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Jude Research Hospital ===================
