Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2011/sm1108.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Gordon Joseph Grow a native of Pharr, LA and a resident of Morgan City passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Teche Regional Medical Center. He was the fourth of six children of Eugene and Levie Grow. He was married to Ima Hooper in Klamath Falls, Oregon on July 7, 1945. Gordon served with the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Tank Battalion in WWII and saw action in Tarawa Atoll, Saipan and Tinian. He contracted malaria during his service and was sent to the Marine barracks in Klamath Falls, OR to recover. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Ima. He worked for Consolidated Freightways for 42 years and retired to a life of helping others and hunting and fishing. In 2003, he moved to Woodburn, OR to be closer to his children. With the death of his wife he moved to Morgan City to be closer to his brother and sisters. He lived his last two years with his sister Vada Belle Breaux and enjoyed the comfort and friendship of all of his friends and relatives. The family is extremely and forever indebted to all who gave care and comfort in his last years. he will be sorely missed. Gordon is survived by his daughter, Janet Stephens of Olympia, Washington; two sons: Richard of Wilsonville, OR, and Steve of Portland, OR; two sisters: Vada Belle Breaux of Morgan City and Golden Mickler of new Smyrna Beach, FL; one brother, Ira Grow of Morgan City; seven grandchildren: Jeff Grow of San Diego, CA, Brooke Lindgren of Portland OR, Tia Schumacher of Littleton, CO, Wendie Klingman of Sultan, WA, Derek Grow of Portland, OR, Troy Stephens of Olympia, WA and Brent Stephens of Vancouver, WA. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Not to be forgotten is his special cat, Sammy. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ima Hooper Grow; his parents, Eugene and Levie Grow and two brothers: Wilbur and Edison Grow. Visitation was held on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Twin City Funeral Home beginning at 2pm until 6pm with a service at 5pm. Military honors were provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
