Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Church, will celebrate the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Mrs. Skinner, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late George Dashiell and the former Francis Leighton, both of Brownsville, Texas. At an early age, ÒPeachaÓ performed in numerous dance recitals and enjoyed dancing her entire life. In her life, she was a member of Krewe of Galetea of Morgan City, WomenÕs Republican Club of Morgan City, and an avid bridge player. She enjoyed flower gardening, shopping and spending time with her family and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to her caretakers over these last years, Yvonne Meaux, Donna Melancon and Jenna Melancon. Special thanks to Jo Lane Doucet and Cynthia Smith with Hospice of Acadiana. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Virgil M. Skinner; two daughters, Debbie Terro and husband Mike, and Annette S. Trahan and husband David, all of Lafayette; three sons, George Skinner and wife Karen, and Tim Skinner and wife Denice, all of Lafayette, and Virgil M. Skinner Jr. and wife Jody of Sugarland, Texas; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Cynthia Brittan of Baton Rouge; one brother, Leighton Dashiell and wife Toni Anne of Boerne, Texas; a sister-in-law, Joyce Orlando of Morgan City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Melanie Smith. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette today, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Visitation will continue Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers will be Virgil M. Skinner Jr., George D. Skinner, Timothy L. Skinner, Benjamin J. Skinner, David T. Sonnier Jr. and Michael J. Terro. Honorary pallbearer will be Bradley Reaux. Gift bearers will be her granddaughters, Angel Cheramie, Rebecca Fitter, Rachel Brunt, Paige Skinner, Courtney Sonnier, Katherine Skinner and Elizabeth Skinner. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
