He left this world with his loving family by his side at 7:30 pm. A week before, he celebrated his 75th birthday in the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Born in Lafayette on Aug 6, 1936, he was a lifelong resident of Berwick. He was a graduate of Morgan City High School and attended SLI (now UL). A man of many trades, he dedicated his professional career to the oil field industry. He also volunteered much of his time to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Department, where he served as commander of the Sheriff's Reserve for over 10 years. A quick witted and gregarious man in nature, he never met a stranger in his life. In his free time he enjoyed working with his hands in activities such as wood crafts, handyman projects and gardening. Most notably to those close to him, his true passion, other than his family was golf. As an avid golfer for over 50 years, he proudly touted his numerous holes in one. He made his way across the country and the world playing historical courses and resorts along the way. He leaves to cherish his sweet memory, his wife of 51 years, Patricia Thibodaux Tatum, their three children, Elmer Jr., Patti Tatum Geho and her husband Phil, Derek and his wife Kristin, five grandchildren Danielle, Elmer III "Bubba", Erin Tatum Atkins and David Simoneaux, Katie Scarlett Olsen and his beloved dog SuSu. The family would like to express their deepest and most sincere gratitude for the extraordinary care given to him by the intensive care unit at Lafayette General Medical Center. The compassion and support shown by the nursing staff was overwhelming. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Holy Cross Elementary Library in Morgan City in the name of Elmer Tatum Sr. Memorial services will be held at Hargrave Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 pm to 9:30 pm and Wednesday from 9 am to 1 pm with burial services to follow at Morgan City Mausoleum. After burial services, the family is welcoming friends and extended family to gather in honor of Elmer at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City. ===================
