All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.shtml ======================================================================= NOTE: If a Photo is available for an obituary record, a reference note will be included with the record. ======================================================================= BERGERON, MARTHA LACOSTE (September 24, 1932 - September 26, 2011) Martha LaCoste Bergeron, 79, a native of Bayou Shaffer, and a resident of Amelia and Lafayette, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 at Magnolia Estate Nursing Home in Lafayette. Martha was born on September 24, 1932 the daughter of Richard H. LaCoste, Sr. and Marie Ernestine Billiot. On September 30, 1950 she married Earl J. "Tuttum" Bergeron and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1998. Martha served on the United Houma Nation Tribal Council for 20 years. In 1999, she received the United Houma Nation Pioneer Award for her tireless work on the TribeÕs bit for Federal Recognition and her effort in creating the Tribal Logo. She also served as St. Mary Parish Constable Ward 9 for ten months and represented District 8 on the St. Mary Parish Council for nine months. Martha was a member of the Morgan City Chapter of AARP and also a past member of the Amelia Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include four children, Kathleen Bergeron, of Lafayette, Deborah Bergeron, of Lafayette, Kevin Paul Bergeron and wife Penny, of Gibson, Cynthia Bergeron, of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Michelle Broussard and husband Shannon, of Lafayette, Lisa Bergeron and husband Christopher of Bayou Black, Martinique Swift of Pineville, Anthony Paul Bergeron of Gibson, Heidi Anderson and husband John of Lafayette, and Mark Andrus and wife Katie of Lafayette. Martha is also survived by three sisters, Eva Dell Tabor, of Amelia, Florence Breaux, of Berwick, Shirley Canty, of Berwick; one brother, Jerry Preston LaCoste, of Amelia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Leola Elliott, and Louise LeBlanc; one brother, Richard LaCoste, Jr. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Amelia. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Twin City Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed at 7:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Martha will be laid to rest in Bayou Black Cemetery in Bayou Black.
