Herman a lifelong resident of Morgan City passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Terrebonne Regional Medical Center. My body is my temple, and I am going to decorate it any way I like! I have many scars which I consider to be trophies of survival, and tell my story to a point. They only tell of the unfortunate events, not the blessings in my life that give me the will to live. First off there is the date of (2-2), the beginning of my battle. My very first godchild was born on this day, and if it wasn't for his birth, you would not have this story to read. When my sister was pregnant for him, a lump grew on her neck, and was found to be cancerous. Eventually found to be hereditary, and then discovered that my father, brother, and myself all had the disease. So this birth saved my whole family. Being the youngest in my family, and having the worst of the sickness, I have had many surgeries, treatments, and moments that I should have died ;(infinity symbol represents not giving up & mortality.) My zodiac sign is (Pisces), and as true to my sign, I have had the ability to swim upstream in seemingly impossible moments. Not letting any diversity slow me down. There was a time in my life when things were at their worst and without these three little angels, I would never have made it through this point. I had to get up every day and show them that everything was OK, and that nothing was going to happen to me. I learned to smile even through the worst pain, from having them around me; (J, K, E =Jordan, Krista, & Ernie Jr) Beating the odds and making it through the nearly impossible, I was able to witness the birth of 2 great nieces; (the #21). The younger of the two, which has a lot of my personality, looks and attitude, is also my God daughter. She has my eyes, and now I have hers. Divorced twice now, I was able to understand that I do not need some man in my life to complete me. I found my identity, and am the happiest I have ever been. I am so honored to have my family name, I have the most amazing, caring, strong family; (H=Herman) No matter what obstacle is put in front of me, God has shown me a way to rise above and find a positive in every situation; (wings) I don't think of my disease as a death sentence, I've been dealing with it so long, it's a lifestyle to me. If any studies of me have helped to save even one life, I've done my part; (caduceus) When they made me, they broke the mold. It stops here. DNA is the only real proof we exist; (DNA Strand) Dana is survived by her parents, Steve and Dolores Herman of Berwick; one sister, Stephanie Hayles and husband, Tim of Berwick; one brother, Brient Herman and wife, Amber of Bayou Vista; two nieces: Brandi Hardy and husband, Brandon of Arnaudville and Britany Dinger of Bayou Vista; two nephews: Brian Barrilleaux of Berwick and Blake Dinger of Bayou Vista; three great nieces: Elyse and Ansley Hardy of Arnaudville and Zaylee Dinger of Bayou Vista; one great nephew, Kaden Landry of Bayou Vista; best friend, Sharon Robichaux and her children: Caitlyn and Brylee Vining of Morgan City along with her beloved pets: Ella, Freddy, Willie and Agnes. Visitation will take place on Monday, September 5, 2011 at St. Stephen Catholic Church at 9:30am until 11:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial following. Dana will be laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum. ===================
