She was born July 10, 1939, in Dresden, Kan., to the late Charles Otis Runyon and Lillian Hazel Hale Runyon. She had a bachelor’s degree from Southern Arkansas University in music ministry and education and was a licensed minister with the General Council of the Assemblies of God. At the time of her passing, she was co-director of Assemblies of God World Missions Prayer Task Force. Nelma was an accomplished pianist. She loved fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Tommy R. Carpenter Sr.; a daughter, Dana Harden (Marty) of Patterson; sons, Thomas Carpenter (Angelia) of Haskell, Ark., and Ched Carpenter (Leah) of Prairie Grove, Ark.; grandchildren, Brandon Harden, Raigan Harden, Austin Harden, Keatyn Harden, Jenel Carpenter, Alexa Carpenter, Isabella Carpenter, Chase Carpenter and Campbell Grace Carpenter; sisters, Faith Porter (Floyd) of Jonesboro, Ark., and Lavonne Wimberly of Corning, Ark.; and a brother, James Otis Runyon (Fernetta) of Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Benton First Assembly of God, 1801 Hot Springs Highway, Benton, Ark., with Rev. Jim Bales and Rev. Alan Womack officiating. Committal service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Oakwood Cemetery in Paris, Ark. The family will receive friends between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Special Touch Ministries, P.O. Box 25, Waupaca, WI 54981.
