She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Lafayette to the late August Guidry and Anita Mouton Guidry. She is survived by her foster daughter, Gloria Guidry Barilleaux and her husband Terry Sr. of Lafayette; four grandchildren, T.J. Barilleaux and his wife Danette of Sunset, Colin Barilleaux and his wife Lacie of Church Point, Heather Barilleaux Lanclos and her husband Chad of Duson, and Kayla Barilleaux and her companion Jesse of Ft. Collins, Colo. She is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Guidry of Lafayette, and Alma “Petesie” Gonzales and her husband Nelson Sr. of Lafayette; one godchild, Nelson Gonzales Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Cotton” Thornton; her sister, Olyamphe “Toni” Newman; her brother, Dales Guidry; and her parents. A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at 10 a.m. in St. Edmond’s Catholic Church in Lafayette, with Deacon Frank Cormier officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Thornton’s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA The family would like to acknowledge Hospice of Acadiana for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to Mrs. Thornton and her family during their time of need.
