Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2011/sm1111.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== David Franklin, 71, a resident of Verdunville, La., died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Franklin Foundation Hospital at 12:23 AM. Visitation will be Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, La., from 9:00 AM until funeral at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Golden Queen Cemetery in Centerville, La. David Franklin was born August 4, 1940, in Franklin, Louisiana, to Mr. Arthur Franklin, Sr., and Mrs. Dora Cage Franklin. David was the ninth child of nine children. He grew up with his sisters and brothers, being the apple of his family eyes, "Baby Dumpling." he earned the nickname "DUMP". David married Almetra Jones of Morgan City, La., closing the market on one of the parishes most sought after bachelors, on August 16, 1974. They were married for thirty-seven years. together they reared three girls, Trina, Tia and Davida. He was baptized by Elder Charles C. Watkins, Sr., at Triune Church of God In Christ in Franklin, La., where he served as a Deacon, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Trustee Board, Member of the Mass Choir; Member of the District Men Fellowship, Member of Triune Church of God in Christ Nursing Home Ministry, Member of Brother Ben Thibodeaux Nursing Home Ministry, and Mentor for Patterson Young Men Jail Ministry. He had a passion for teaching-especially teaching the Word of God. He attended Maryland Elementary School on Bayou Sale, La., Willow Street High School in Franklin, La., and Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., for three years. He was drafted into the United States Army, where he served as a Military Policeman. He received an Honorable Discharge. After the military David returned to St. Mary Parish as a substitute teacher for St. Mary Parish School Board and also worked for a short period of time at St. Mary Community Action Agency as Director of Services after which he was employed by the Atlantic Richfield Company at the Bayou Sale Gas Plant as an Oilfield Operator. He worked many years before retirement. He was one of the founding members of 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish, the Neopalities Civic and Social Club and a member of the Promise Keepers Incorporated. He was an adopted grandparent for Snow White Headstart Center in Centerville, La., and former Chairperson for St. Mary Water Work District No. 5. David had many great friends whom he cherished. Just to name a few; Eddie (Flintstone) Verrett, Sr., Gregory Prince, Joseph "Dardar" Lightfoot, Minister Don Moreaux, Sr., Minister Gary Eave, Charles "Butch" Middleton, Frank Ficarato, Harold Sidney, Jeffery Carson, Alfred Daniel, Minister Benny Druilhet, Minister Wynord Thomas, Minister Ben Thibodeaux, Jeffery Beverly, John "Leda" Madison and Wendell Bogan. He often said, "people choose people, God chooses good friends." David leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife who loved him dearly, Mrs. Almetra Jones Franklin of Verdunville, La; three daughters, Mrs. Trina Trimm (Phillip) Dural of Verdunville, La., Mrs. Tia Trimm (Eddie) Verrett, Sr., of Norfolk, Virginia and Ms. Davida Franklin of Centerville, La; two sisters, Shirley Franklin(Arthur) Wesley and Savannah Franklin(Jeffery) Hadrick both of Franklin, La; two aunts, Mrs. Florence Cage and Louise Quinn both of Franklin, La., mother-in-law, Mrs. Ara B. Jones of Morgan City, La., four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Norma Skinner, Ms. Mary Elaine Jones, and Ms. Lisa Jones all of Morgan City, La., and Mrs. Ara Jones (Claudell) Ramagos of Shriever, La., four brothers-in-law, Mrs. James Anderson of New Jersey, Mr. Herbert "Mike" Jones, Mr. Anthony (Edna) Jones, and Mr. Conley (Melba) Jones all of Morgan City, La., seven grandchildren; Whitney, Eddie, Jr., Rodney, Tyler, Amaya, Kayla & Keayla, one godson, Angelo Valteau, Jr., of Dallas, TX., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Franklin, Sr., and Dora Cage Franklin; three brothers, Elliot Franklin, Arthur Franklin, Jr., and Isaac Franklin; and three sisters, Earline Franklin Williams, Lucille Franklin Burgess and Nettie Franklin Anderson.
