GOVERNALE, LUKE JOSEPH “LULU” 
January 9, 1923 — November 19, 2011

Luke Joseph “LuLu” Governale, a native of Patterson and resident of Logansport, 
died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in 
Shreveport.

A Christian funeral was held Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Rose-Neath Funeral 
Home Chapel in Logansport.

“LuLu” is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margaret Boyd Governale of 
Logansport; three daughters, Dolores Governale Henry of Houma, Brenda Governale 
Adams Boswell of Berwick, and Mary Catherine “Cathy” Jett and husband James F. 
“Jimmy” Jett III of Abbeville; two stepsons, Rio Boyd and Ty Boyd of 
Logansport; his friend, Anna; eight grandchildren, Paris Gerard Henry of Port 
Hueneme, Calif., Benjamin Joseph Henry of Lafayette, Jonathan Luke Henry of 
Patterson, Lindie Adams Carbonell Pittman of Berwick, Melissa Adams Seely of 
Berwick, Erin Adams Toups of Berwick, James F. Jett IV of Abbeville and Kristi 
Jett Ledet of Abbeville; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a 
sister-in-law, Angelle Folse Governale of Morgan City; and his beloved pet, 
“Pepper.”

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Lila Logan Governale; 
his parents, Antonino Governale, Virginia Piranio Governale Albares, and his 
stepfather, Viley Albares; three brothers, Russel, Benny and Sammy Governale; a 
half-brother, Jimmy Albares; three sisters, Virginia “Jennie” Lipari, Rose 
Gaudet, and Mary Lena Governale, all of Patterson.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, and received his honorable discharge in 
1946. He was a true “handyman,” having the ability to fix anything. He was 
generous in helping his fellow man. He had a great passion for wood crafts — 
small wagons and lighthouses, among other things. He built his workshop at age 
87, and a front porch shortly before his illness. He loved to work in his 
vegetable garden.

He was a devoted provider for his family. He retired from Tidewater Marine, who 
named a vessel, “The LuLu Tide,” for his years of dedication to the company. He 
then worked odd jobs until the age of 80; and then said, “I don’t know why I’m unable to find a job.”

“LuLu” will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
