Funeral services for Mr. George S. Comer Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church in Ferriday. Officiating will be the Rev. Ray L. Varnado, pastor of Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church, Father Louis Sklar, pastor of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Rev. Roger Johnson, pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday. Mr. Comer was born on July 14, 1927 to the union of George S. and Clara Hutchinson Comer and passed from this life on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Mr. Comer was a native and lifelong resident of Ferriday; he served with the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Comer founded the Comer Funeral Home and Flower Shop in 1951 and served as president until his retirement in 2007 and remained active in the business until 2010. He was a member of Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church where he had served on the official board. He was a member and past president of the Ferriday Rotary Club, also a recipient of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award; a member and past president of Ferriday Chamber of Commerce; member and past president of North Louisiana Funeral Directors Association; past member of Louisiana Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Comer was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Naideen Sevier Comer. Survivors include his wife, Leona S. Comer; his daughters, Carolyn Boydstun and Von Cordray; his stepchildren, Amanda Landry, Meri Curry and Gregory P. Ibert; his brother, Henry Comer; three grandchildren, Sherrill Caso, David Boydstun Jr. and Jennifer Herrin; also survived by seven great grandchildren; and a host of step grandchildren. Friends may call for visitation at Comer Funeral Home on Thursday, December 8, 2011 after 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church after 1 p.m. until time of service. ===================
