The Rev. Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Cartner, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Ernest Diamond and the former Rachel Mire. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette. Surrounded by family, Madelyn was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 2, 2012, at 10:18 p.m., after a short illness. She enjoyed being with her family, friends, doing crafts, travel and delighted in spending time with her two grandchildren. She was instrumental in starting First Alliance Church in Baytown, Texas, as well as Bible Study Fellowship in El Paso, Texas, and served with her husband as Director of Child Evangelism (CEF) in El Paso, Texas. In 1950, Madelyn was named Miss Franklin and in 1951, Miss St. Mary Parish and later, Miss St. Mary Parish Sugar Queen. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald, of 56 years, 5 months and 26 days, of Lafayette; one daughter, Kim Leigh Schatz and husband, John, of Leesburg, Virginia; one son, Michael Charles Cartner of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Johnny and Kristen Schatz of Leesburg, Virginia; one sister, Pearl Deslatte of Lafayette; and one brother, Harold Diamond of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Linwood John Diamond and Wallace James Diamond. The family requested that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, from 10 a.m. until time of service, at 1 p.m., in Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Kerry Diamond, John Schatz, Tim Baker, Steven, Baker, Harold Diamond and Bill Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that tax deductible donations be made in Mrs. Cartner’s name to Bible Study Fellowship, International at 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas 78258, www.bsfinternational.org. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors of Lafayette General’s ER and ICU, as well as Dr. Brad Broussard and the responding EMTs during Mrs. Cartner’s time of need.
