A Memorial Mass will be observed Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 415 Robley Dr. in Lafayette, for Blair J. Harden Sr., 77, who passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital of Lafayette. Rev. Howard J. Blessing will officiate. Mr. Harden was born Sunday, Aug. 12, 1934, in Drumright, Okla., and was a long- time resident of Acadiana. An educated, intelligent man, Blair began his work career as a petroleum engineer and then became a pharmacist. But his greatest joy in life was being married to his high school sweetheart Bonita and being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Blair was a man of great integrity and compassion, never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone at any time. He was a most loving husband and provider, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be most deeply missed. Mr. Harden is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 55 years, Bonita Streva Harden and his two children, son Blair Harden Jr. and daughter Laurie Weir and her husband David, all of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Jordan Harden, Malory Weir, Kimberly Patterson, Bradley Patterson and Madison Weir; and one great-grandchild, Raven Harden. Blair is also survived by one sister, Betty Harden McBryde and her husband Oliver of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel V. Harden and the former Clothilde Soliday. Visiting hours will be observed at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, from 10 a.m. until time of service. The family expresses sincere thanks to the staff at Lafayette General Medical Center and LA Extended Care Hospital of Lafayette for the compassionate care given to Blair and his family.
