September 24, 1941 — December 30, 2011 A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista for Lanny Ross Martin Sr., 70, an Oil City native raised in Eunice, a former resident of Centerville and Morgan City, and a resident of Bayou Vista for the past two years, who passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at 9:16 p.m. at his home. Burial will follow in Ibert’s Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the services. Lanny was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also an avid fisherman. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Penny “Pie” Fabre Martin of Bayou Vista; two sons, Ramus Martin and his wife Michelle Ekiss Martin of Houma, and Lanny Ross Martin Jr. of Bayou Vista and his fiancé Wendy Carline; two daughters, Eppie Martin Broussard and her husband Marvin of Loreauville, and Monica Martin of Bayou Vista; two sisters, Loula Mae Buteaux and her husband Leonard of New Iberia, and Katherine Buckner and her husband Ken of Opelousas; his father-in-law, Everett Fabre; his brother-in-law, Joe Romero; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Bruno Martin and Elda “Maggie” Miller Martin; one brother, Tony Martin; two sisters, Ronnie Deshotel and Mable Romero; and one brother-in-law, Justa Deshotel. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. The mortuary will reopen Thursday at 8 a.m. until dismissal at 9:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Ramus Martin, Lanny Martin Jr., James Blythe, John Harrison, Terry Theriot and Marvin Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Lowe, Bruno Lowe, Leonard Buteaux, Ken Buckner and Joe Romero.
