Mayon a resident of Morgan City, born to the late Clonie and Evelyn Mayon in Four Mile Bayou, passed away at Tech Regional Medical Center on Monday, February 13, 2012 at the age of 85. Edward worked for Hamer's Hammers, as one of the first original Hammer Engineers, a field in which he became one of the first pioneers of the Oil Industry. Edward was one of the first surveyors for Mobil Oil, having worked out of the Morgan City Branch. After years of dedicated service, he retired and went to work for the City Of Morgan City until the age of 65. During his loyal service to Morgan City, he helped beautify the town on various projects. Edward married his beautiful bride on April 14, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a union which lasted for 66 wonderful loving years. Edward was known to enjoy gardening. He grew everything from fruits and veggies to flowers. He was known for picking beautiful blooms and creating elegant arrangements for his wife, the love of his life. Edward loved his family immensely, always spending time with his children and especially grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his new great great grandchild, whom he all adored. He was a known gentleman, a gentle soul who could call even the wildest of birds to his side. Edward is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clarice Guidry Mayon; his three sons, Edward Mayon Jr., Mark Mayon Sr. and his wife, Cindy, Darren Mayon Sr. and his wife, Pam; his daughters, Pamela Holt and Sandra Berube and her husband, Richard; nine grandchildren, Tara Dombroski, Leroy Richard, Lanetta O'Neal, Tana Guidry, Angie Granger, Mark Mayon Jr., Derrick Mayon, Darren Mayon, Jr. Danna Mayon.; nineteen great grandchildren, Miles Dombroski , Brooke Freemen, Cody Richard, Katilin O'Neal, Justin O'Neal, Chandler O'Neal, Brett Guidry, Karley Guidry, Branden Granger, Colby Granger, Mark Mayon III, Haley Mayon, Blaz Mayon, Kaden Mayon, Natalie Mayon, Derrick Mayon, Jr., Macie Mayon, Tylor Mayon, Camryn Mayon, and one great great grandson Kohen Freemen. He was preceded in death by his father, Clonie Mayon; his mother, Evelyn Trish Mayon; his father-in-law, Joe Guidry; his mother-in-law, Lilius Sampey Guidry; one brother, Louis Mayon Sr.; and three sisters, Bernadette Fuselier, Ida Mae Angelo, and Lucile Bergeron. The family requests that visitation be observed Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 9am to 11am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City with a Mass of Christian burial beginning at 11am. Graveside services will follow in the Morgan City Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Darren Mayon Jr., Danna Mayon, Derrick Mayon, Mark Mayon Jr., Miles Dombroski, Leroy Richard, and Brett Guidry. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Edward's name to Holy Cross Catholic Church.
