Funeral services were conducted for William Edwin “Bill” Young Sr., 79, at 2 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2012 at David Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Darren Eldridge officiating. Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 19, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., and Monday, from 9 a.m. until service time. A native of Niles, Ohio and resident of New Iberia, Bill died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1 p.m., at his residence. Bill loved being on the water and boating. He also enjoyed his brief time as owner of the Office Lounge in New Iberia. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Bexar as a Damage Control Fireman 2. He was a motorcycle police officer while living in Tampa, Florida. He worked for RMK-BRJ as Director of Security from 1966 to 1973 in Viet Nam. He also worked for the Defense Dept. assigned to Johnston Atoll as a firefighter. Bill retired from Cypress Bayou Casino as Director of Operations after 14 years of Service. Before coming to Louisiana he worked in Las Vegas for the Monte Carlo, The Sahara and The Mint and in Laughlin, Nevada for The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. Survivors include his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Martino Young of New Iberia; children, Sally Johnson and husband, Ron, of Naperville, Illinois; William “Bill” Young Jr. and wife, Bonnie, of New Iberia; John Young and wife, Janie, of Oregon City, Oregon; Sandy Blocher and husband, Jim, of North Las Vegas, Nevada; Shawn Hester of New Iberia; Seth Hester and wife, Lysa, of Walterboro, South Carolina; and Cristen Hester of Lexington, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer F. and Gladys Williams Young; and a brother, Richard Young. Our family will forever be grateful to Dr. James Falterman Jr. and staff and Hospice of Acadiana for their expertise and compassionate care. David Funeral Home, 1101 Trotter St., New Iberia was in charge of arrangements. ===================
