BLACKMAN, MARTHA 

Martha Randolph Blackman, artist and owner of Mandeville Glassworks Studio, 
passed away peacefully at sunrise in her studio on Friday, March 16, 2012.

Her strong spirit and creative life propelled her to produce hundreds of 
significant pieces in mediums of stained glass installations, glass sculpture, 
fusion glass, iron and bronze sculpture, acrylics, charcoal, pastel, pen and 
ink, poetry and photography. As a master gardener, this also was incorporated 
into her work.

She was a graduate of Bolton High School in Alexandria, attended All Saints 
Episcopal High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi and Amarillo Jr. College in 
Amarillo, Texas. Throughout her life she studied with accomplished artists in 
New York, New Mexico and the South. She was a passionate and active supporter 
for controlled-growth and preservation to maintain the character and quality of 
life in Mandeville.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Anne Blackman Connors; father, 
Wilbur Fisk Blackman; sister, Anne Lobdell Blackman; and stepfather, Thomas 
John Connors.

Mrs. Blackman is survived by her former husband, Kenneth Sollberger; her 
sister, Elizabeth Ashton Blackman; two sons, Vaughan and Peter Sollberger; 
daughters-in-law, Stefani and Edie Clair Sollberger; grandchildren, Avery and 
Adelaide Sollberger; niece, Elizabeth Lobdell Ward; nephew, Lowell Ashton 
Wheeler and their families, along with her many wonderful cousins of the Kyle 
and Lobdell families in Franklin, as well as her cat named “Cat”.

A Memorial Service in April will include a viewing of her remaining artwork in 
honor of her accomplishments.
