A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, April 9, 2012, at St. 
Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson for Mr. Anthony Lopes "Tony" Carinhas, Jr., 
77, a native of Patterson, resident of Florida in his earlier years, and 
longtime resident of Kenner, who passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at St. 
Theresa Medical Complex in Kenner. 
Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. 
Father Angelo Cremaldi will officiate the services.

Tony coached and trained professional ballroom instructors and students 
throughout the United States and became an icon in the world of ballroom dance. 
He taught for over 58 years and his dance performance history was second to 
none. Throughout his career, Tony taught both independently and with national 
organizations such as Arthur Murray, Inc. and Fred Astaire Dance Studios 
(FADS). While with FADS, he became the Assistant National Dance Director and 
was an Examiner for 32 years. In addition to ballroom dance, Tony studied 
Spanish Folk Dance and especially the Flamenco. His first Spanish dance partner 
was Maria Ballas, grandmother of Dancing with the Stars professional Mark 
Ballas. He performed for President Nixon and trained and performed with Jose 
Greco. He held the designation of Licentiate of the United States Imperial 
Society of Teachers of Dance where he was also a trainer, and was a national 
judge and examiner for the National Dance Council of America.

Survivors include four nephews, Frank Guidry, Druby Guidry, George Carinhas, 
and Jarvier Carinhas; two nieces, Patti Alvarez and Clementina Jiang; as well 
as numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Lopes Carinhas, Sr. and Mary 
Carinhas; and three siblings, Manuel Carinhas, Mary Carinhas Guidry, and 
Clementina Carinhas Sallas.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at St. Joseph Catholic 
Church in Patterson from 9:30 AM until time of Mass at 11:00 AM.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc.
