Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2012/sm1204.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 12 noon at Teche Baptist Church in Centerville for Thelma "Tot" Burns Chauvin. Burial will follow in the Teche Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Larry J. Hobbs will officiate the services. Thelma, 83, a longtime resident of Verdunville entered eternal life on April 15, 2012. She was born to the late Dewey Joseph Burns and Mae Voisin Burns on a houseboat in the Lake Chicot area in the Atchafalaya Basin. Thelma lived the first 20 years of her life on a houseboat on Bayou Smith and was a school boat pilot from a very early age, going up and down the rivers and bayous picking up school-age children to attend a one-room school on Hog Island Pass, taught by Missionaries through eighth grade. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Walter Joseph Chauvin, Jr. of Verdunville; three children, Walter "Sonny" Joseph Chauvin, III and his wife Darlene of Verdunville, Ava Chauvin Young and her husband Raymond of Centerville, and Heidi Chauvin Polito and her husband Bart of Garden City; one brother, Donald Burns, Sr. of Verdunville; six grandchildren, Cassie Falgout, Kayla Young, Brittney Polito, Megan Chauvin, Ryan Polito, and Brodie Young; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Burns; and four sisters, Birdie Mae Sauce, Vivian Carter, Sadie Aucoin, and Katherine Marcotte. Serving as pallbearers will be Raymond Young, Jr., Bart Polito, Kerry Aucoin, Glenn Fletcher, Cheyenne Burns, and Roy Poe. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter, "Sonny" Chauvin, III, Ryan Polito, Brodie Young, Thomas Aucoin, and Blaize Barrilleaux. Memorial donations may be made to Heart of Hospice, 201 W Vermillion St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70501. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday at Ibert's Mortuary from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and again Wednesday at Teche Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM.
