Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2012/sm1204.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Ibert's Mortuary for Mr. John "Canoe" Collins, Jr., 74, a native of New Orleans, was raised in Weeks Island, and was a longtime resident of Franklin, who passed away April 2, 2012 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Lafayette. Burial will follow in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Jeanerette. Father Gregory Cormier will officiate the services. Survivors include one daughter, Jessie C. Curtis of Franklin; one son, John Paul Collins of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Luke Romero, Jr., Joseph Romero, Brad Romero, Timothy Curtis, Angela Curtis, Christopher Collins, and Celeste Collins; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Emerite Babin Collins; one daughter, Tammy Ann C. Romero; one grandson, Cameron Collins; one granddaughter, Hope Romero; his parents, John Collins, Sr. and Hilda Collins; and three brothers, Paul Collins, Adam Collins, and Joseph Collins. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday at Ibert's Mortuary from 8:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM. Serving as pallbearers will be Jessie C. Curtis, Tommy Collins, Rickey Collins, Timothy Curtis, Luke Romero, Jr., and Wesley Savoie, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be John Paul Collins, Luke Romero, Sr., and Whitney Bourque.
