A mass of Christian Burial for David Ortemond Jr., 39, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Brennan and Father Bill Melancon officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Abbeville beginning on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 10 a.m. To 9 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 1 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 8 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum. A native of Abbeville and life long resident of the Leblanc Community in Louisiana, Mr. Ortemond passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012. He was a graduate of Erath High School in 1991 and held a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. He played linebacker for the ULL football team from 1990-1994. He was a member of the Granite State Semi-Pro Football Team from 1996- 1997. Mr. Ortemond began his career with Mar-Con Inc., an Oilfield Service Company founded by his father, Leon D. Ortemond Sr. in 1996 and continued through 2003 holding numerous positions as Director of Transportation, Personnel Director, Marine Division Supervisor and Yard Supervisor. At the time of his death, he worked side by side with his father, and family members as Marine Manager with D & L Salvage and Marine Family of Companies. His advocation and enthusiasm for offshore powerboat racing gained him high recognition and admiration in the sport throughout the Gulf South. He was an active member of the Florida Powerboat Club for several years. He maintained an intense focus on the technological advancement and development of the power boating and marine industry. He thrived on being a perfectionist not only in the passion of his sport but his everyday life as well. He possessed a true zest for life and a steadfast commitment to his family especially his adoring nieces. He had an impact on so many lives. Through his random acts of kindness and generosity, there was not a stranger he did not know. His positive and giving spin was evident in all who came to know him. He is survived by his fiancée, Sandy Patout; his mother, Diana Romero Ortemond; a brother, Lance David Ortemond and his wife, Kelly; his sister, Christina Franques and her husband, Andre; six nieces, Mary Catherine, 14; Anna Grace, 10; Jeanne Claire, 6; Caroline Elizabeth, 6; Laura Anne, 4; and Catherine Clare, 2. David entered his heavenly life along with his father, Leon D. Ortemond Sr. and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lula Belanger Ortemond and Landis Ortemond; and maternal grandparents, Laura Leblanc Romero and Frank F. (Felix) Romero. Serving as pallbearers will be Pat Brennan, Brad Dunphy, Gregory Leblanc, John Leblanc, Danny West and Ross Woodring. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Comeaux, Rick Day, Rocky Guidry, Leander Nunez, A.J. Phillips, Richie Prince, Hubert Trahan, The Employees of the D & L Salvage and Marine Family of Companies, the Members of the Florida Powerboat Club and the Teams, Coaches and Staff of the ULL Football Team 1990- 1994. Serving as readers will be Dr. Russel Romero, Corbett LeBouef and serving as gift bearers will be his six nieces, Mary Catherine, Anna Grace, Jeanne Claire, Caroline Elizabeth, Laura Anne, and Catherine Clare. Musical selections will include Be Not Afraid (Dufford), Shepherd Me, 0 God, Ave Maria (Schubert), Pie Jesu (Webber), Amazing Grace and Saints of God. Musicians will be Jodi Bollich, Soprano, Lauren Baker, Violin 1, Emil Ivano, Violin 2, Emma Guidry, Cello, Will Green, Trumpet and Linda Kidd, Organ.
