She was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. After graduating from Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., and working for a time in interior design, she met her husband Jim right after World War II and settled in Old Greenwich, Conn. She raised a family and then joined Jim in business-related moves first to Central and South America and then to several different states. While Beth was primarily a homemaker and mother, other occupations included interior design, greeting card sales and real estate. Retirement in Florida followed, during which she and Jim enjoyed more than 20 years of family, friends and travel to all corners of the world. After suffering a severe stroke in 2008, Beth was able to enjoy the last four years of her life with family and friends here in the Morgan City area. Beth is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Fitter and his wife Barbara of Bayou Vista and James Fitter Jr. and his wife Melinda of Leesburg, Va.; one daughter, Jan and her husband Phil McLellan of Lebanon, Conn.; one brother, Clint Daggett and his wife Nancy of Shapleigh, Maine; six grandchildren, Andrew, Brian, James, Eric, Elizabeth and Ben; and five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Ashlynn, Parker, Brian and Briley. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fitter; her parents, Clark and Esther Daggett; her sister, Jeanne Flagg; and her daughter-in-law, Gail Fitter. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Berwick followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. ===================
