Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Rogers “Pete” Peters Sr. was born February 19, 1949 in Franklin, Louisiana to the late Manuel “Buster” Peters Jr. and Emma Dell Jackson Peters. On April 25, 2012, Rogers “Pete” Peters Sr. transitioned from this world of sin, sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest. Pete accepted Christ at an early age and he was baptized in 1963 by Pastor Albert Wiggins at St. Joseph Baptist Church in Franklin. Later in life after joining Queen Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Anderson Clary Jr. in Hampton, Virginia, he became an Usher where he remained until moving to Palmetto, Georgia. He then attended Friendship Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Donald Earl Bryant Sr. in College Park, Georgia. In 1967, he graduated from Park Avenue High School. In 1971, he received a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Southern University, Baton Rouge, and received his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from American Tech University, Killeen, Texas. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. After 22 years of service, Pete retired from the US Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his tour on active duty he served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Texas, Norfolk, Virginia and several assignments in the Northern Virginia area. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Army Achievement Medal. He was a federal employee with Department of Defense, Defense Information System for 10 years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel “Buster” Peters Jr. and Emma Dell Jackson Peters; two brothers, Manuel Peters III and Joseph Peters; and his grandparents, Willie and Rebecca Jackson, Era Williams and Manuel Peters Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted and loving wife, Helen Marie Harris Peters; one son, Rogers Peters Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two daughters, Valyncia Dionne Peters and Brandi Lynn Peters both of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Justice Spears, Devin Peters, Alyssa Peters and Leah Peters of Baton Rouge; four brothers, Willie Jay (Diane) Peters of Franklin, James Andrew (Norma) Peters Sr. of Houston, Texas, Michael Ray (Ora) Peters of Kokomo, Indiana and Daryl Keith (Flora) Peters of Killeen, Texas; and four sisters, Savannah Jackson Wiley (Aunt) of Orange, Texas; Evangelist Rebecca Ann (Minister Charlie) Watson of Franklin; Annie Belle (Ibitade) Peters-Okedara; and Evelyn Joyce Peters-Dean, both of Houston; two godchildren, Karen Peters-Artis of Franklin and Laderica Druilhet-Bustillos of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three aunts, Addice McDaniel of St. Louis, Missouri; Catherine Brown of Port Arthur, Texas and Gertrude (Frank) Smith of Franklin; nine brothers-in-law who loved him as a brother, Earnest Harris Jr. of Reno, Nevada; Carlie (Gloria) Harris of Los Angeles, California; George Harris, Johnny Harris, Emmanuel Harris, Herman (Nancy) Harris, Rev. Lloyd (Lillie) Harris, all of Baton Rouge Floyd (Regina) Harris of Atlanta, Georgia and Willie Harris of Sacramento, California; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Haynes of Dallas, Texas and Beatrice (Mathew) Whitfield of Washington, DC, and Augustine Harris of Baton Rouge; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Viewing Service was held Monday, April 30, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Atlanta Mortuary Services, 3234 Dogwood Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30354. Atlanta Mortuary Service was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 12, 2012, at 2 p.m., at St. Joseph Baptist Church, 878 Irish Bend Road, Franklin Louisiana, 70538.
